Because there are good guys and bad guys on this server, there is going to be PvP. This is my favorite part of NWN. For me it is very challenging and exciting to cross wits with rivals and engage in cloak and dagger RP, trying to come out on top... however, as there can never be a true victor, it does seem a bit pointless at times. (still far more entertaining than endlessly farming... I dont know how some of you can do it.)
Many players have commented upon this circle of good guys and bad guys endlessly killing one another. In attempting to come up with a semi decent solution to this so we can have fun hunting each other down, I propose the following:
If I am killed in PvP combat and have to respawn, wether it be a fair fight or not, I will sit out of whichever circle of events I was in for a while and let the plots and schemes progress without my interfierance. As it happens, I have more than one character, so if say, Manshin were to be trapped and slain by his enemies, I will just play one of my others for a bit and let things progress without me. Granted, no one expects perma-death, or even suspention of play for more than a week or so, but in order to add some simblance of consiquence to dying, I think this is a good idea.
It is up to each of us as players to monitor ourselves however. Nothing is worse than beating an enemy, then having them respawn and come running back for another fight; even if its the next day. If you wax a rival, you should at least have a couple days to go around gloating over your victory.
If you agree with this, and are willing to voluntarily play dead or at least dumb for a few days after you are beatin, please put your name down here.

Well said. Everyone is free to make their own choice on this, but I personally agree with Manshin's idea. I would love to add on something insightful to this, but he reall has summed it up pretty well. I intend to do this with my charecters, so I suppose I'll sign up as number two.

I too will sign up for this. I have a character that has been just lying around in my Vault not doing anything anyways. Hmm...could be a good excuse for Vashal to make a few visits also.

*shrug* I believe in "perma"death. If I cannot explain how I came back to life practically, or through DM/Deity intervention, I will delete said character.
This is not for everyone, I just feel it more realistic and I don't mind losing a char for the sake of RP. I have way too many chars anyway, which i can fall back on if my main char is done in.

this is a great idea, but i just wanted to add to it with another option instead of not playing your chars. whenever jargo has been involved in continuous pvp to the point where it's gone into a bad cycle, i've done something strange. i let jargo lose all interests in fighting (only temporarily) and have him be preoccupied with in-depth roleplaying conversations with close friends. this way, i can let everything calm down for a week or so and still enjoy playing the same char. the easiest way to do this, i've found is to get involved in a romance. it can be loads of fun too.  |

Youll just perm? Didnt you get waxed by Sharita? I take it you were raised? Anyhoo.. the concentraiting on RP thing is certainly fine, so long as that RP doesnt involve plotting and scheming toward the fella's who just stomped your guts. Detachment is the key here.

Yeah I got killed by her, but for some reason, the good guys have this habit of locking up the bad guys. And you dont lock up dead bodies for no reason. Anyways, yes I will perm, and in all my PvP encounters, I have never respawned. And I dont plan on doing that ... But I guess now, if I want plots solely focused on me, all I have to do is knock off a bunch of sods. And then it will be me BY MYSELF! And I will have the WHOLE PLOT TO MYSELF! And then ... ummm ... I'll have no one to RP with ... |

well, it took me quite some time to make up my mind about what i think of this, and i'm sure you all have missed rav's name on that list  seriously, the concept is great and i'm of course going to act according to it. one thing i like to add is, if you are killed in a PvP battle, don't respawn until it's absolutely sure that none of your enemies is going to do any more RP with you. i've seen it happen twice that players have hit respawn and left the others to come up with an explanation for not being able to do what their characters would have done. IMHO avoiding that the story takes a course you don't like by taking the 'easy' way out, is not only bad RP, it's pretty much metagaming. oh, and from my experience, it's a pretty bad idea to respawn/log off when you die in a DM plot as well. |

Especially since logging off dead is against the rules.
Respawning with a DM nearby....you never know what will happen, do not always be too hasty in hitting that respawn button....

I thought it was against the rules to wait to respawn, unless there was a party organized to rescue you?
So if you wait around for a DM to raise you... it seems kinda cheap.

seems kinda cheap to wait around for a raise? That sounds strange. I always thought of respawning as the quick way to get your death over with when no ome is around. If I die when a DM is doing the attacking I always hang around for a little bit because several times something interesting happend to comtinue the story. Like those orcs or whatever deciding to eat you or take you to their leader or wahtever, and they prefer thier food fresh! anyway the same with PvP...most players I know aren't PvPing to make you take that xp/gold hit....it's to advance a story. and even if the story causes them to leave you dead somewhere...most will give you an OOC raise after the story is done. and if someone does this, which is very cool of them...go ahead and either log for a while, play a new char for a while, or something, according to the RP of what happened. and anyway...I reckon that if Vind got assassinated...he'd be permadead. So Quad...that is what I signed him up for. Romance and Permadeath. ;D ;D ;D |

DM Valkyrie isn't talking about waiting 20 minutes to see if someone comes along or to see if a DM decides to raise you. What we are saying is wait till the fight is over and give it 1 min to see if there is more involved. You MIGHT get raised and you might not. But if you hit respawn automatically you cut out any chance of RP. Death is not always the end. Nor is it always what the villain is after. The NWN system makes it hard for a fighter to "capture" someone. Your death may be him knocking you unconscious if it works for his plans better.
One time I used the characters as bait for a totally different group. I let one go free and the others were unconscious (dead) but I needed them alive for them to be bait. You think a Paladin will be more willing to risk their life to recover a corpse or to save a friend?
Had they all respawned that mini quest would not have happened.

Thanks DM Richard, that is what I was referring to. When characters are involved in a DM plot and happen to die, do not bee too hasty in hitting the respawn....doesn't mean you will be raised, doesn't mean you won't...
If you are soloing or in a party where the entire party dies without DM involvement, of course respawn as normal. Sending a tell to your friend after you die is also, against the rules...but you guys know that already.

here's some hardcore action for you all. Ya bunch of pansies! I don't respawn right away when killed in pvp until I'm certain that those who killed me aren't gonna do anything- looting included. That's right. I said looting. The reason I used me as an example is because I won't do anything I won't accept done to me. For instance, I played a rogue on another server and we did brigandry at times. If the PC didn't hand over his gold we'd kill him and take his weapon. Then we'd leave him for dead to respawn. It took a DM nearby to raise him, grab the weapon, and kill him again. If my mage kills an evil mage, he's gonna try and steal their spellbook! I doubt a DM would actually hand me the scrolls I'd need to represent learning new spells from the other mage's spellbook, but I'm gonna try |

There is only one slight probelm with this. It is slightly against server rules in that... if by happen stance (and it is completely feasible) a level 10 character kills a level 20 character. He then loots his body. Now he has a lot of overpowered items. I mean I guess he could loot it to the certain extent that he would get a slight reward and not all of the gear. Regardless, it is one thing to die and have to respawn, but then to lose gear on top of that. *shrugs* I refused to give the banites my gear because I figured it would be breaking the server rules. But if a DM tells me it is ok ... well I'd be willing to give the banites my stuff ... I am dead after all |

Well the other reason I would think this would be kind of a gray area, is the 100gp limit on things you can steal. But I guess that can be waved by the player that was the victim so oh never mind.
