One of my characters is missing an item, his "private journal", which I thought was stolen, but according to the server rules, theft must be roleplayed. So... Is it possible to get it returned (i.e. Does the server retain logs of unique objects or should I just make another)? Preferably, I'd like to see it returned due to it's difficulty to replicate, but thankfully I haven't seriously used it as a real journal either!

So I can't immediately help with this items recovery, but what I do offer is advise 1) When I scribe and script important things, I save it in my google drive (google docs) as a natural failsafe and backup 2) If you're using a "personal journal" for plot intel on your PC, you can request a DM/EDM to set this item to plot to help avoid theft 3) Theft RP is encouraged but a thief emoting they're stealing ends up being fairly counter intuitive. Rolls from the mechanics go into play here. Being caught (Spot), leads to other doors opening.

However, is there any place that my character can put them that they would be considered "out of play"? The reason I ask, is that none of them would carry these objects on them at all times. They might be left "home" (for instance) while travelling and definitely wouldn't be something carried into a dungeon. Would making them a plot item be the right thing?

Now I'm wondering if I misread the "private journal" - For clarity, do you mean the journal you bring up when you hit "J"? As this is in a file in your computer that should be under Documents - Neverwinter Nights - localvault
Providing that just in case

If you have an actual item in your inventory that your using for your PC as a Player-to-DM communication of private information, this can definitely be made plot to avoid theft Sorry, forgot to address that

Oh, the journal(s) I'm referring to are in-inventory books that I've adjusted the item descriptions on to represent an actual journal carried by the character. It's not something that I'd "normally" carry around all of the time, but for lack of in-game alternatives I kind of do right now (for instance, I'd leave it inside an Inn's locked room if I was staying there).
Also, I'm not sure if I'd really want to write a 1,000 entry journal, because I'm not sure how well the server can handle such a load. How large can a desription be, before it's too large? ...and, what date system would I base such a thing off of?
Right now, they're simply meant as informative objects rather than detailed diaries (lol)!

In regards to your question of safe keeping, banks on the server now offer the option to store items for a character. Your character might look into that for future personally important things. The tradeoff of course is you don't have it at all times, but that's how it would be if you left it home anyway.

I'll be on the lookout for that then. Thanks!

Those are banks. In Valkur's Roar by the merchant Bron, in suzail on the docks, Immersea, Thunderstone. Those are the ones I remember at the moment. Likely others as well. They will give the kingdom coin for all those coins you find in treasure, sell you paper bank notes or gold bars that aren't touched by respawn, and now allow you to open your own basically safety deposit box for storing personal items. All banks are connected, so you can put something in and get it out at any bank.
Hope that helps.

You must have a minimum of 5,000gp in loose coin for the option to appear in the NPC Convo for the Vault Key, and a minimum of 50gp thereafter to access it.
