Dakari was born in the Devonshire a small town that few visit or even care about, unless you were deceased. Her father was a mortician, the morticary was ajacent to the modest family home. Dakari spent hours cleaning and prepping the dead for final burial from as long back as she could remember. The personal effects were gathered, cleaned and then resold to the locals at a discounted price. Occassionally, she was reward with a gift for her work alongside her father. She regarded these trinkets as nothing more then blessing from her father to appeciate his own robbings and standing behind the laws of the land was weak and petty at best. Her mother did little for the business other then spend the lions and enjoy the affections of the local true business men as she put it.
Dakari found content in the corpses she cared for. While preparing a unknown priestess for burial, Dakari was startled to see a shadow looming over in the shadows. The shadow seemed to be mourning the loss or at least was bound to the priestess. The shadow seemed to care little of her presence and approached the body and wailed. Finally, turning to a startled Dakari the shadow began to speak,
" She was ruthless yet well understanding of the times to come. I served her loyally and faithfully for many years and taught her the way of the shadow lords, this coupled with her blessings few could oppose her will. She carried many items of which I have come to collect and reuse with my new master that she forseen and wished."
Dakari knew full well her father had left hours before to sell the items to the local adventurers.
Dakari responded," My roguish father has pawned them to do nothing more then further himself in my mothers eyes and greedy palms. The shadow moaned and his eyes turned a glowing red, muttering words of distaste. Perhaps lucky for Dakari the doors above began to opena dn close, her father and mother had returned perhaps earlier then expected by the new look on the shadows face he was now overlooking her. The shadow placed a dark smokey finger to his lips and told Dakari to not speak of this encounter or your family will die. Slowly steeping back into the shadows with a look of wildness about him as her father and mother entered.
" how is your wealth you encured from your latest find her father." Dakari muttered.
With stern look he responded, " Well she had some fine religious artifacts but few would pay for a follower of Velsharoon though but nevertheless enough to give your mother and I a week at the castle Hortmen. "
Dakari muttered, "Father do you feel no remorse in stealing from the dead to benefit yourself?"
His response" You care too much for these pathedic corpses which are nothing more then worm food."
The shadow sprung from the darkness draining Dakari's mother before her father could even move. The shadow approached closer to her father with hands glowing red draining his life force from his old body. Dakari yelled stop. The shadow withdrew, looking at her as if to say her words were not her place here. Her fathered screamed for Dakari to run and save herself. His face adorned with a smile he had raised and taught Dakari well. The shadow seemed confused yet focussed on both of them.
Shadow spoke, " you have little in common with this flesh trader, told me yourself."Dakari slowly picked up a mallot laying on the tableand turned to face the two in an aggressive posture. She brought the mallot down apon her weakened father as his skull was crushed under the wieght. The look of astonishment from her father knowing that she did little to stop or warn then was unbearable.
Dakari motioned to her father and bellowed," you are not even good enough to soil the earth as worm food, shadow had done what perhaps I would have if I had the stomach and strength to do myself." The shadow looked at Dakari and then the bloodied mallot as if sizing up his chances of restraining her. The shadow had seen many fall to the priestess and the look in her eyes and that of Dakari's the two were the same. Several minutes passed each waiting the other out until finally the shadow began to speak once more.
" a shadow can not be long without a host to care for it, yet I had to see the priestess one more time and against what she had fortold, I was not to see you for sometime after."
Dakari motioned with the mallot for the shadow to stay in the light. Her desire to be with the shadow was intoxicating. The shadow offered another life beyond this hovel one of understanding and taking of the old ways of the priestess. Dakari was willing to give herslef to the studies and honor of the former priestess with all that she was. The shadow told that she would surpass the former master as it had been forseen even by her. With a slightl flap of a cloak the two steeped into a cloud of smoke outside the lights of keen eyes.
The locals milled about passing by them several times not even noticing there presence. many townsfolk took notice of no body of miss Dakari and wondered her whereabouts as many felt a need to find the youngling. Yet they stood just steps away within the shadows as though they embraced her as one of there own, was truely amazing. After an hour the locals felt the Ash family had been the work of travelling thieves looking for wealth perhaps and the mother afflicted by perhaps potions that cured the bodies of corpses.
The two made there way easily to the forest where shadow told Dakari of the new home they would meet and call home till the time was right. They stepped into a grove much like ones in the forest but this one was different the streamed littered with what looked like corpses but not corpses more souls perhaps but inetheral forms of them former selfs. A large figure that stood looking over powering to even a giant spoke ...welcome to the Temple ...come my child we have been expecting your arrive for sometime. You are the one who will bring life into what is dead ......
