To Courts of Suzail

To whom it may concern,

I am writing on behalf of the female elf, Son'ya who does not write formal letters to well to inquire on her banishment. According to Son'ya she was banished from Suzail for ten years. It has been according to her twelve and one half years before her first return to Suzail.

Her crime as I am told was for attacking two elves in the streets of Suzail where she served a two year jail term followed by ten year banishment. The elf in question has been clean of any criminal involvement since then and has not returned to Suzail for well over the ten year banishment as instructed. She was made to believe that sentence has changed to life banishment.

Assuming she had not murdered these folks in the streets which my understanding is she has not murdered but fought with the two and though she turned the argument into a physical altercation did not kill the two she is entitled to her rights as a citizen once more. She turned herself in peacefully and plead guilty and has served more time then most anyone ever has on such an offense. Again I should point out she freely turned herself in and plead guilty and paid for her crime with interest.

Far worse criminals have done worse and had a less harsh sentence while claiming their innocence and not turning themselves in. It is my belief that this matter should be reopened and the decision over turned of banning her for life. Clear her name as once again a free citizen of Cormyr allowed back into polite society. If we encourage a law breaker to stay a lawbreaker after they have served their time how can we expect them to become a productive member of the crown?

Former War Wizard Phelzaron,

Due to your previous exemplary service, I have been asked to reply to your recent inquiry about the elf, Son'ya and her banishment from Suzail.

Son'ya was imprisoned and banished from our fair capital for the murder of two elves and a Purple Dragon Blade stationed inside the West Gate. Upon reviewing the sentencing documents, I find that the banishment from Suzail was for life because of the murder of the Crown Servant, namely the Purple Dragon Blade who was undertaking the commission of his duty for the Crown at the time of his murder.

I am at a loss to explain why she believes she didn't murder the three, as court documents clearly show testimony from several witnesses that the three were slain, and records indicate that they required raise dead spells to return them to life.

It is possible to appeal the sentence of banishment, but such an appeal would be decided by the Steel Regent since the crime involved the killing of a servant acting as Agent of the Crown at the time.

I thank you for thy timely response into this matter. As with most court cases so old most of these details were left out when I was asked to look into this case. I thank you for clearing the matter up and now understand why she has a life banishment. I suppose after such an offense she is lucky to still walk the land alive. Banishment for life was at least merciful. I will let her know the correct terms of her sentence and why when I next run into her in these lands.

To Balto Pettigrew, clerk of the Court of Law in Suzail,

It is once again my time to write on the behalf of a prisoner that Suzail has in the War Wizard tower. The wizard Garistan who turned himself in claiming an attack on my own apprentices is as I understand it held on only his word alone. I am writing because I have all three that were supposedly killed by him and they are fine, and claim to never have been attacked.

It is my personal belief that the mage Garistan temporarily lost his sanity after thinking a friend of his was killed, in his grief he lost touch with reality for a short time but maintained it enough to turn himself in so as to protect the citizens of Cormyr from his grief.

You hold an innocent man in jail currently, my apprentices are fine, and Garistans long time outstanding record with Cormyr with no criminal record does not deserve to be left in a cell to rot without some sort of real evidence against him. So respectfully I ask that the crown to do what is right and release the man who has since regained his senses.

You also hold a second man in captivity without evidence, a man by the name of Cassius, though it is the courts right to hold a man without evidence I ask you if that is the sort of image you wish to convey to the people of Cormyr. These two are watched closely by many, there cases are becoming public the longer they are held and folk are looking to see what their country does. I ask that you release the man accused if no evidence is there supporting the charge at the least until real evidence comes to light. I believe this will show the wisdom of the courts and that justice is always priority in these lands.

It is my belief that if the courts insist on finding these men guilty on no evidence that this will set a precedence to the common people to believe that any can be taken away on accusations alone and will begin to look like a witch hunt inciting fear into the populace.
