I basically wanted to bury a usual complaint that tends to come up from time to time.
"There are too many 'x' being played on the server."
Now, X can equal anything. To be blunt I'll point out the most recent ones used here on FRC. It can equal elves, evil characters, necromancers, or even rogues.
The majority of us come to a server like this for the opportunity to play and interact with one another. People come here using characters of all races, creeds, and alignments with the hopes of RPing that character with others. However, because some of those races, creeds, and alignments don't quite mesh with one another there is the occasional time where the player finds him/herself alone. The cure to this is found in one simple statement.
Go where the RP is at.
Players will go to, almost by default, to where the roleplay on the server happens to be happening. They will see where most of the activity is happening and change their play just so they can be part of things. The more activity and players that flock to that group, the more other players are encouraged to do so.
This ebbs and flows as time goes on. If one group starts to lose interest or nothing seems to be happening, then people will flock to other groups. There is nothing wrong with this. It is simply the nature of the game. People like to play with other people and will change their style of play to do so.
So for people to say that there are too many of one type or another being played on a server is a very unfair -- and a bit unnecessary -- of a complaint. If the RP is around the elves, people will make elves. If the RP is around evil characters, people will make evil characters. If the RP happens to crop up around a sudden increase of gnomes being played, people will make gnomes.
This is just another one of those things where the OOC consideration for others playing to have fun comes into effect.
