Since a post like this either doesn't exist or I failed to find it, it seemed like a good idea to have a post regarding events specific to FRC that should be common knowledge to any character, or at least any reasonably informed character. In particular, the following events seem like they should be detailed at length:
The Silent Dominion The Zhentarim Invasion The defection of Redmist The deposing of Bloodstil and the creation of Free Redmist
These are all events that have far reaching after effects and were large scale enough that it shouldn't have to be explained over and over again to anyone unless they don't read Lore of the Lands, in which case, we know which people to beat with sticks. Of course, it also seems like something that would require some discussion as to what is common knowledge, but, that's bridge that or two in the future, so, why not cross the one already here. Any takers?

Seems a good idea to me, as long as a good balance can be found between making common knowledge availible and giving away too much OOCly.

I like the idea, but it should be only basic lore, such as who the major publicly known figures were, the skeleton of what happened, etc.
All else should be personally researched...that way you get to sort out what is spin and what really happened. I know from experience that there are several versions of 'what really happened' in Redmist floating around. I've had 'the full and true account of the events' from four different people, and not one of them was the same....some don't even resemble the truth.
The Silent Dominion plot was the same way, there are very few people who really have all the details, if you ask one person they say 'So and so was working with the dominion', and if you ask another, the same person was instrumental in the downfall of T'nal.

Sounds like a good idea, HH was on to something I mean what happened in redmist after it was taken over in recent months, I have -no- idea what happened, but I take it there was a lot of secretive stuff going on so the actual, facts would be skewed to the average cormyrian. As for the silent dominion, maybe our characters choose to believe something else , that aside the outline of what happened, something like a timeline would go over well.. ..silent dominion invades, silent dominion defeat, and a small blurb on how and why. Though with such the hardwork the alizeran members did on the play, you could just have IG books made with their play in it. cause it truely was a small work of gamer nerd art. (common we all showed up IC to a play, in a video game) but it took a lot of time and was appreciated.

Very good idea if you ask me, we should definitly do that. In fact, I think we should even go a step further: Some PCs themselves ought to be 'common knowledge' by now. For example ... the Heroes of Redmist (Sharita, Aelrik, Glewien and Phelzaron for you youngsters ), Ranan, Darkharp being a famous bard and all et cetera. Maybe see who by common consensus is famous enough and add their names and a tiny little sentence about why and what they are famous for. Thrym

Excellent, this information would have helped me much. What has happened around, who are persons with more gravitas than next one, any groups and entities newcomer will know or learn in very short time. It all can found in thousands of posts, i suppose, but brief synopsis of general IC knowledge is good idea. Of lore, i generally try to RP what my character would know, as most do i suppose. Lore ranks taken, then forgotten, it is a mechanism that is very awkward to portray PnP character sheet. There are more things a person knows than his lore shows, and less too. I have no 20 ranks of being personal buddy with local deities, but have 10 ranks of wearing pants in public places.

Again, apologies if I'm overstepping my bounds, but I'm just cutting and pasting from another thread.
The deposing of Bloodstil and the creation of Free Redmist
Lord Jorias Bloodstil and his lackies held Redmist in a tyrannical grip. Silencing nay sayers, hangings, and people going 'missing' were the norm. Then a co-ordinated rebellion saw to it that in one night Bloodstil and the feared Scarlet Guard were overthrown in a bloody battle. The streets were cleared and talks of forming a democratic council started.
During that time of talk an uprising of both Cyric and Shar followers waged a battle with one another in and around Redmist. Using both propaganda and misleading tactics they caused havoc and chaos in the streets. It was suddenly stopped with no reason that the public knows about.
When the city was calmed again, the voting began for the council. With the new council in place the rebuilding of the city began anew. Rules and policies were to be decided, many of them openly allowing for free speech and open merchanting.
Slightly overzealous and somewhat reactionary to any suggestion of rulership by only one person, some clerics of Siamorphe were arrested for preaching of noble rulership as per their dogma. They were released, but the sting of the event still lingers.
To date the city of Redmist still continues to clean and rebuild. They no longer hold people in stocks as a form of punishment, all are welcome within the city and as long as the individual causes no trouble, no repercussions will come. People are able to openly speak about the government without the risk of being hauled away. Those days are gone.
