To the Council of Redmist,
I am writing you to inform you of a crime that has recently been committed on your grounds.
I do not seek to accuse, seeing as no one but me and my familiar was there to witness the incident, yet I feel you ought to know just to what a degree some quite powerful people seem to consider your lands lawless and apparently believe they can do anything they please in them.
A mere day ago, me and my familiar had headed out from your fair city to investigate a group of Ettins we had heard were attacking innocent travelers on the road leading from your city to the village of Isinhold.
We had just struck down the first two of the beasts as we were viciously assaulted from behind by one from a group of 'travelers' who had apparently been watching the battle and only waited for our victory to attack.
A mage sheathed in what I deducted to be a shadowshield, very powerful defensive magic, invoked some powerful necromantic spell on me which I could barely resist, and not even identify - which, considering I am a wizard in service of Kelemvor and therefore quite knowledgeable of such magic, would point to it most likely being quite powerful as well.
Miraculously, I managed to resist the spell, only to be further threatened by this unknown mage, who clearly told me that he intended to kill me. Luckily, I managed to conceal myself using my magic and escape.
The man in question was garbed in a robe, cloak and hood and carried a black staff topped by a minuscule skull. Due to the shadowshield spell covering him, I was incapable to make out any details, sadly. He is obviously quite powerful though to command a defensive spell of seventh circle.
He was accompanied by a woman sheathed in what appeared to be a shadowshield as well, which I was able to identify as a 'Zenobia' due to her characteristic horned, orange glowing skullstaff with the help of some adventurers. She did not interfere in any way, seemingly only interested in heading on. She furthermore called for someone named 'Selg', yet I did not see anyone else. I furthermore heard (and saw before) that she is associated with the wizard Phelzaron - a name I am certain you of all people know.
I had never encountered this mage before, and therefore can not imagine any particular reason for him to assault me using such powerful magic. The only reason I could imagine would be him spotting the symbol of Kelemvor I carry and attacking for that reason.
The Western Reach Accord clearly forbids to assault someone for the simple reason of his faith as long as it is legal in even one of the participants lands - and Kelemvor is a legal and approved faith in all of them if I am not mistaken.
If the deed was actually motivated by religious reasons, then these people clearly do not care about the peace of these lands and are willing to disturb it to kill even members of opposing faiths that are far, far below their own arcane power without any hint of provocation.
If not, there is still at least one highly dangerous criminal mage on the loose in the area.
Either way, while I am aware it would prove fruitless to press charges without witnesses, I feel it is my obligation to at least inform the council of your fair city so that it may keep a close eye on those that might very well aim to disturb the peace of the lands, something none of us wishes to happen once more.
If you require any further information about the incident, you can contact me at either the Regal Griffon Inn in the village of Isinhold, or the Wailing Wheel in Suzail.
Respectfully,
Brannon Grayson
