hoo boy is this an old thread, ripped from the bottom of the last page here just in time to save it's life! Anyway, I was curious if anyone could answer this... As a ranger if one were to take Favored enemy: Elves because they hunt drow...would that actually work on FRC? or are those drow subraced as drow, and therefore negating the favored enemy feat entirely. Cause that would suck for someone who may or may not have done that. And for RP purposes, are Orogs orcs? or like orc half breeds? or mutatant orcs or something?

From what I understand of the mechanics of NWN, if a creature has a subrace, it should not negate the actualy base race choosen in the toolset. Thus drow should be considered elves.
As for orogs, I thought the origination of the orog was from the combining of orc and ogre blood. I don't know what monster category they fall under. But I bet it is mukaka orc (no racism intended, just punning off the representative from that southern state).

Going by the source book Races of Faerun, orogs are a sub race of orc along with mountain and grey orcs. They're sort of like the drow or dreugar of the orc world, altered by extended time in the Underdark and racial misfortune. They qualify as "orc" for all purposes that check for race. That said, I don't know if that's how they're treated in FRC

orogs = dirty underground orcs with flare for making pointy armor and weapons.

I would just like to chime in on the topic of Rangers and give great tribute to the one called Vind.
First a little about Rangers: Rangers are guys in the woods, and rangers that are guys in the woods named Vind smell really bad, especially when they are drinking. I sure do hate that Ranger guy named Vind cause he has Wild boars named Kermit and they smell bad too. Vind keeps dried worms in his pockets.
Fun trivia about equipment owned by Vind the Ranger:
I bet you did not know that Vind's bow was actually bought at S-smart in the sporting goods section and is made of 100% PURE fiberglass Yew-like material. It has a 25lb pull but has the BIG fake wheels on it for those uncomfortable with their lack of strength. The bow strings he uses are made out of hair that none of you want to know where it came from on his very own body. He uses a laser sight with a scope cause he actually is near sighted. His arrows he bought in the S-smart toy section and originally had the rubber suckers as the ends that he pulled off and tied souvenir flint arrow heads from Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.
If you want to know more about special equipment used by the infamous ranger known as Vind stay tuned for later installments.

Real question about rangers...i understand most of our abilities and skills like hide and setting traps which i love....but not disabling traps? is there way to make it so it is not a cross class skill? or as usual am i missing the big picture?

If you drop one point into it, you will be able to automatically recover your own traps. Other than that, there is not much you can do. You do have search so you should be able to see the trap and say "let's go around it". In NWN 2, there will be a feat called able learner so you can have your cake and eat it to (boy thats the second time i have used that phrase in a twelve hour period to a ranger).

Rangers are not rogues. NWN doesn't take into account very well the RP aspects of setting traps and disabling them.
In NWN we have trap kits that we are stuck with.
If you think about it outside the NWN box, a Ranger could dig a pit trap, make a spiked falling log tap, or any number of other "woodsy" traps. He could also disable those types.
He would have no skill setting or disabling a poison needle lock trap, pressure plate falling ceiling traps, etc.
The closest way NWN fixes this is by giving them set traps but no disable traps. Is this a good set up? No. Can we do anything about it? No. Maybe in NWN2 they will have it where Rangers can set AND disable traps but ONLY in outdoor areas... but I doubt it.

And with only one point in disable traps (like I have) your dex bonus will give you several extra points. Vind can usually disable strong, sometimes difficult traps having invested only one point in the skill because of his massive dex bonus. THough GUldie probably doesnt have quite the same dex, I am sure he isn't too bad off.

The reason you can disable some traps is because the standard disable dcs are very low on some types of traps.
