Another peeve of mine here. The use of Pure Black as a colour. Could we have it limited by special dye kits or something? It strikes me as a colour that too many use as a colour for their gear, when it's really just a colour intended to be used on, say, the inside of some armour or to make a "silhouette" kind of character.
'Cause this is going too far. Charcoal is the blackest colour there is. Pure Dark is the colour you'll perceive closing your eyes in a vault with absolutely no light. No candela whatsoever would result in the colour of pure black.
And, really, when you look at a black shirt, it's not the colour of absent light -- it's the colour of light being mostly absorbed by the fabric. You can still see that it's a woolen sweater, and not just the outline of one. You should still be able to see the threads in a black sock, even if it's supposed to be black. Do you see my point? It just looks awkward and plain wrong. (Besides, it's about as original as "My character's parents were killed, and he swore revenge")

Over use of pure black certainly can be silly. Used as a trim color or as a minor contrast color it can be used to good effect.
... that's all I have to say about it really. ;D

Yus! *does happy dance* I've been stewing quietly about the over use of Pure Black for YEARS. Even back when you had to buy the individual dye kits, I HATED seeing that color. It's one thing to use it as an accent, but it's completely another to look like a walking ink stain. And for you rogues, rangers, and other sneaky types out there, Pure Black does NOT help you hide better! In fact, you stick out even more so than you think! Only way you could stick out even more is by wearing white or one of the very bright colors.
Okay... I'm done ranting and raving...

I have been meaning to hide this color for sometime. I will try and look into it soon.

I have been meaning to hide this color for sometime. I will try and look into it soon. Aw, do you have to? I completely agree with the complaints about people using it too much. I also know there are a lot of people sick of chain-mail bikinis and plate-mail thongs, but the answer to those isn't hiding those crafting parts, is it? Like ShadowCat said, pure black is a great highlight color. It'd be a shame to lose it because some people overused it.

Yeah can we not hide pure black? I mean I am not Mynian ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) but if used properly it can accent the look. I happen to think Ranan's armor which uses pure black for parts of it, looks great! OK I am biased.

One of the coolest looking characters ever was evil manshin, when he had the all pure black armor and helm.

yeah on the stick out, hence why camofluage is not pure black....though as a dress on Jessica Alba, pure black would be very very nice. ;D

Keep Pure Black, or at least offer it to people who have proven themselves responsible color cordinators. It's too useful for getting rid of that odd cloth one pelvis choice that sort of gives a bull's eye effect of where to land a very dirty kick, for providing conrast, and for removing a few other piss poor choices on the part of the CEP. If you're gonna take them out, take out the ladies underwear choices for armor, so Misha and I don't have to go over the arguements with the trampy dressing. Just hiding the female bits, barely, does not an armor make.

I'm not trying to be mean, or anything.. But this is a dumb idea to get rid of pure black. If anyone overuses it (makes all their armor black.) it just means they have no fashion sense. I use it a lot, almost in all my outfits, but it isn't the entire outfit, and it usually looks nice (to me, anyway). Don't take pure black, please.

Its a double edge sword more colours can be used for good or evil! Why punish players who use it to make very appealing clothing (Ailren and Myn are both good examples to name a couple) just because some people use it excessively? Just accept that every player you meet isn't going to be as perfect as you are.

Sheesh, if you all feel that way about it I guess pure black can stay. I also think that most pure black characters just look dumb. I rarely say that word but it so fits how I think pure black looks when used inappropriately. Yes, I am a fan of irony.

I'll quote a scene from IG to illustrate my stance...
Aria: "You, inkblot! Halt!" GuyinPureBlack: "*snarl* Warwizard *snarl* Aria: "Alright... lets see your face." GuyinPureBlack: "Why?" Aria: "Because you look like a walking Inkblot." GuyinPureBlack: "So?" Aria:"So it screams, sociopath who doesnt want to be noticed." GuyinPureBlack: "You shouldnt judge a book by its cover." Aria:"Cover is where they have the title... now off with the hood." GuyinPureBlack: "Harssment! No!" Aria:"Welcome to monarchy.. you can do it or I have a cozy cell..."
As for the idea it helps hide in teh shadows... maybe if theres no light at all present... in which case its no better than any other colors.

I can remember using it as the main colour in an outfit when we played here years ago and it was pretty much outlawed then, we had DMs telling us to sort it out just before we left FRC. One of the first things we mentioned to each other was just how many people use it these days. Then again theres more than 5 people on the server at any one time now so maybe we just didn't see it before. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I have a hard time believing those who do use pure black ever think it looks like absolute shite. Thus kind of effectively ruining your argument, yeh? (Don't let this become an insult, please. If you want to disagree, disagree. If you want to think I'm insulting you, send me an angry PM. This thread neeeds to be flame-free.) Just as a final disclaimer, this wasn't an attack on you.

I use pure black a good bit. I think it looks something like say a velvet type cloth would look and it is good for some detail on some things. Right now my main character uses white ice, white, charcoal and pure black and i think it looks nice but would be kinda ugly if the pure back was taken away because you dont get the option for charcoal with metal and well a dark black looks good in some places. I use to go a bit overboard with pure black but it was to cover up how the robes would show through a cloak in a bad way. It isnt something i would think a rogue or someone wanting to blend in would use but a flashy priest or mage would have great use for it. Please keep the pure black and if someone is going overboard with it just send them a tell or something and let them know its a bit much and that would make things alot easier on everyone i think.

I always assume pure black (used as the base colour) is velvet. I've asked at least one character if they weren't hot in all that velvet. They, of course, just looked at me with a "huh" expression.
That having been said, I like pure black. I never wear it on my current characters, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't. I used to have an outfit of pure black and gold on another character on another server. It was actually named Black Velvet. (This was back before item crafting and dye so it was an imported item with RP tokens, which was a means we had to buy DM imported stuff on that server.)

I don't like it unless it's used extremely sparingly as trim. The colour 'pure black' creates is completely unnatural and unachievable IRL, and in a fantasy setting should take magic to achieve. Just my 2 pennies.
