Hi all,
The situation came up recently where a character was dead and a survivor was looking for people to help rescue her. The DM Team wanted to clarify the situation for everyone and let you know what we like, dislike, and what is against the rules.
No-nos:
First, if your PC is dead, it is against the rules of this server to send tells to other players asking for a rescue. This will get you and the rescuer in trouble. If you were alone and died, or if your entire party was killed, suck it up and respawn.
Second, if your PC died but other party members have escaped with their lives and want to put together a rescue, it's fine to wait for that. You don't have to respawn.
Third, if you're the one who got out with your life and are looking for PCs to get a rescue together, it's bad form to do it via tells. We (the DM team) prefer that you actually go around and look in character, without sending tells asking where people are. You should look around and take your chances in this type of situation. Note that we're not making a rule about this since it is effectively unenforceable. However, we don't like it and would ask players not to do it.
Yes-yeses:
Sending tells to get a party together for a gaming night is just fine. Sometimes you don't have three hours to try and find a group to go slay the cloud giants in their secret lair south of Isinhold (actually, i don't think anyone's ever found them, but that's not relevant), so sending tells is perfectly alright. Note the difference between this situation and the rescue situation, though. You haven't started, no one is in danger, and there's no problem if you can't get the group together.
Thank you for your consideration.
