I just want to put this out as a plee (yes i'm begging) for no one to read posts... like Biographies... and then take what they know OOC and bring it into the form of reason for suspicion or anything like that for a char. IC , cause now that I've started playing an evil character it's become a special interest, and fear for me. Just face it, super heroes need villains , just like villains need archenemy super heroes, and its gonna be a lot more fun if we both allow each other to operate in our own capacities , banter it up , and save the day/terrorize the countryside as is our respective wants. Because i already worry , however maybe irrationally , that people are doing this. And it's just gonna rain on everybodies parade.
If the person is a true RPer they will nuance the evil into their character (or blantantly brandish it, depending on degree of evil/crazyness). So let the RP do it for you , not the metagaming, cause while most serial killer , crazy bastards say they dont/didnt wanna be caught they all do, because that's what its about , but they wanna be caught once their greatness is realized and manifested. So , go on, let it manifest, dont think of the children in the street that may get hurt in the process. Just remember that friends dont let friends metagame.
Partially what i speak of, specifically, is just because someones wearing dark eyeliner/mascara stuff doesnt make them evil, why dont you ask the person about it and then make the decision! But , in conclusion, metagaming like all of the above is the worst and quickest way to ruin what could be a great story line. I wouldnt have even posted a background story but dangit , i like storytelling , and that's all i wanna do , im not looking to ruin someone elses character or day, i just wanna develop a wicked cool evil bitch and tell her story.
Now please , everyone leave your meta-keys at the forum door, and take your IC taxi home.

I have personally never understood the point of character stories in either examine or forums...
It's too easy place to find info even if you didn't want to do anything but take a look at their stories.
Often you can find the darkest secrets of a character from there with a browse, doesn't that really eat the feeling when the character might IG tell them to you?
At least I'd rather hear this stuff from the person, character between character than read them from forums, but I guess that's just me.
...Still as a side note I never take OOC info to roleplaying, what I was trying to say here was that it eats the mood when info like that is available for everyone who read forums. Be careful what you write there...People cannot read your secret books/stories, but some people indeed can use them against you.

All I can say is... Hee hee hee... Tori's stories are there to be read (not officially IC public publishing yet) for fun, but they're also an excellent metagaming trap. Now, taking and pinning someone for metagaming because they got info from the forums is pretty hard, but with a few added words, and a couple of key items not discussed, it's easy to write the truth and still not say anything more than what people want to hear.

I dont know about you all, but Manshin hears a lot of things from a lot of people. So much so, that sometimes, I cant really even remember where I heard it from! If you dont want me to meda, as I have said before; dont tell me things OOC. Sooner or later, I may forget that the info you told me was OOC, and I will use it. Well, nowadays, Ill just intentionally meta with it. As for stories and such, though you can all do what you like, I dont read anyones background stories until I know them RP, and have heard their history in game. Sometimes, rather than taking the long time required for me to tell my BG (and this is something others may concider doing too.) I just refer them to read my history and say that we talked about it. If you write a step by step story like Torian likes to do, and someone reads it, then meta games with it, intentionally or not, I say you deserve it for putting your own neck on the block for writing it down. I myself wont do it (I dont read them) But sooner or later, someone is going to read it and ruin all of your plot lines, so you should probably be careful for doing that... as for catching them metagaming by intentionally putting OOC info to be read.. well, thats entrapment.

Personnaly, I do not disclose everything in the bio I submit to the forums. And I do not use that bio in the character description.
If you want to leave secrets, you should! It's like poker, you do not show all your cards at once.

You could also consider keeping your bio to what happened in game, and in the past. And if it is a secret....why would you be writing it down for someone to discover? But if you just have to write down your brilliant plot, you could always write it offline to MS Word or something, then at a later date, post it when it would have no current bearing on your character.

Exactly!
Why to post it if you want to play the evil assassin that everyone thought to be goody?
You might just ruin your character because people by either accident or purpose would get info from forums to use it IC.
Personally I read those forums sometimes but just out of pure curiosity and just those written by my friends. I do my best to keep them from IC, but I do know not everyone even try to do that.

Nothing wrong with entrapment... Besides, most of the stories written are ones that have already been settled in game and basically come to a close. And as a few people have PMed me about some of the stuff I've written... Well... Sometimes truth IS stranger than fiction...

I prefer read stories just when I know well a person, I mean, when I have a good knowledge about his ways and things... this is how I did with Liahn, Ranan, Jerico, Sharita... I never readed the story of Torian for example... of course exceptions exist, like the story of Kam Malaghan... but I think that we both as players are roleplaying very well our ways and suspicious... it was very good to me know what god Ranan follows just playing in server (and I must say that many players metagamed the information, cause it wasn't an easy task, he was always covering his servitude), but even after read I still have informations that I had access well writed in my journal, so everything important that isn't writed in it is an information that Keetena never had access... this prevents metagame in this aspect very well.

The reason I do is for a three fold reason , first , chances are , what I post in the Biograpy my character is never going to tell the vast majority of people IC , so I do it as a record for my character. Second, I post it in the hopes that if someone reads it and then sees my character in game , they will RP with me because they know I have a developed/ing char. and they have a desire to find out more about the character, whether for an OOC desire to bring them down or whatever, like i said , we both need our foils. Third , i post it for the DM's , because I would like things to happen to my character beyond what I make happen to her, I dont know if that is what they're intended for , but if something is going to happen to advance my characters story it's gotta be known where the character is going.
P.S. I never put anything more then what can be seen at a glance of my characters in my "examine box". If one put's more, THAT is begging to be meta'ed , now posting in a forum, if I was running a PW I would make it mandatory that everyone post a background for their character, in PnP i always had to have backgrounds of PC's so i guess it's just my habit and the storyteller in me.

Hey gang!!
Just a note, I enjoy writting. I am not very good at it, but I do enjoy telling a story. Why do I put Jerico's life in the forums??
So I can enjoy writting and for those of you that enjoy a story, you can read it.
I dont post it so that others can use it to Metagame, and I would hope players dont. I surely enjoy reading about the exploits and adventures of others. Isnt that what we are al doing? essentially we are writting stories, being a part of the books we read.
I find it very entertaining to read how others interact in the lands. Again, it is me the player who reads them, not Jerico Gallen the PC in FRC.
If you cant keep Forums information seperate from Game information, how are you gonna keep one of your PCs from knowing what another does???

I can understand that people can sometimes have a blurry line between what is OOC info and IC info... but there are way you can handle such... WRITE IT DOWN! There is an editable journal which you can use to track such info... you can remember all the stuff you want but only write down what your char knows.... It may be a bit of trouble, but if everyone did it, then this wouldn't be an issue...
I LOVE writing my characters histories... mainly because I like to know what people think of them... Are they original in everyones eyes? How realistic is it? I post them because I want to know what people think of my characters background. I think I am a horrible writer, but when people say that I did a good job, it gives me a big ol' boost to go out there and roleplay! I am conceited in this sense and am proud... I do not intend my information to be given as Metagame info, I intend it as ego candy for myself...

Posted by Spooks on Today at 12:17 Oh, cool, I'm not the only one! ;D Actually, in all seriousness, I enjoy writing. Ask Sharita about herself and you will get what you see in her bio.....providing I remember it. And, yes, I am a little behind in her story, it usually takes a couple long boring days at work to figure out how to write the next chapter....I'm two chapters behind as it is. But, learning a new job and new machine will distract you from daydreaming and mentally writing a story.
