I would like to introduce this concept. It does seem to fly in the face of our society today. I know that a lot of you like the idea of having a plot start to finish in a single sitting. Unfortunately (or fortunately) that isn't always going to happen the way that you like it to.
Some of what you may experience is foreshadowing. Some of what you may experience will be false rumors and red herrings. Some of what you may experience is an adventure that involves no combat at all *gasps*
Personally I like the suspense of something building up over a period of weeks or even months. Be patient. The payoff from waiting for something can often be much greater than instant gratification. Even in PnP it can take several sessions to complete an adventure.
All I can say is be ready for anything... Don't expect anything. And if you don't like it. Keep it to yourself or go do something else.

Ummm ... delay gratification? Never! I must be satisfied and pleased at all times. *sarcasm*
Here are some simple ways to "delay gratifcation": 1) think about baseball 2) think about your mom 3) think about painful experiences
Ok tell me when I have crossed the line.
Ok now to post something other nonsense. I totally agree with Gusty on this one. As a player, I never try to expect each time I log on as there needing to be something there for me to be entertained by. Generally, my rule is soemthing like gardening. Plant some seeds at different times, then each will blossom at intervals, and you will always have something fresh for yourself.
Oh and teens, if you follow those 3 rules above you will lead a healthy and happy love life ... uh ... i mean ... roleplay life.

Hack and slash adventures may seem fun (and for some people that may be all they want or need) but the adventures I remember the best are the ones that have more depth than lets go kill.
A little gratuitous violence never seems to hurt but if it is just hack away you're not really talking about an adventure. You are talking about a battle.

Ah... I love long-time intrieges. Quadhund can vouch for me on that. My little Red Wizard is always working towards a secret goal that I have yet to reveal.
But one day... ALL CORMYR WILL TREMBLE (or at least blink in a suprised manner) AT MELKROTH'S POWER!!

She's not a baseball fan... 3)Hmm..explaining to my mom how much the Red Sox winning the world series means to me...yeah thats a painful exercise.

and a little bump to this that seems appropriate is that if you are in the heat of some long plot, and there is a bit of hacking and slashing going on...take a breather when you can and slow down. don't always just keep hackin at the "baddies" sometimes...heck most of the times, the DM controlled baddie(s) has something important to say that could make the plot continue into a whole new thread beyond "killing the boss" (i.e. Silveryn quest chapter2? the one near Arabel)

Here is a little information that you may not be aware of.
The rewards for being in an event are no longer like they were in the Silveryn quest. Right after that quest we DM's had a long discussion about what happened and what we wanted to achieve. We made some changes that some of you may be familiar with and others may not.
Gone are the days of multiple thousands of exp. Exp given by DM's aquired in quests will be at a MUCH lower level. Exp granted by DM's should be off of roleplaying that doesn't involve fighting. Fighting gives it's own exp.
An event is not there to level you up. It is to involve you in something that you couldn't be a part of otherwise. An event gives you goals and allows you to interact with people you wouldn't normally interact with. Events keep the world from being stagnate.
