now i would like to bring up the question on how to rp having the spell premonition. If im right, premonition is being able to see a few seconds into the future, to how far i dont know. Now, if im walking around with the spell, how do you rp being able to see into the future without metagaming? would this involve dm help or do we just not bother with the whole being able to see into the future and just use it for the damage reduction?

say yer walking through a dungeon and some across 2 levers and a locked door. One of your party members goes to pull the left lever and you scream out "NOOOOOO!!!!!" He looks at you funny and pulls the right lever. The door opens and you all proceed.
Later on he asks you what would have happened... You reply simply "You don't want to know."

"how do you rp being able to see into the future without metagaming?"
You simply don't see that far into the future. It lets you see far enough into the future so that you have time to roll with a blow instead of taking the full force of it. That's all it does.
If you saw further into the future you have to explain: why you can still be sneak attacked... why you let your buddy die... why you didn't know there was a trap on the chest... Any one of many other things that you didn't meta-game because you didn't know it was going to happen. Since you can't use premonition for areas you have not been to (nor to accurately know what changes a DM has made to an area) it doesn't make sense to use it for those you have.
Some people meta-game knowledge of what is coming up over the next hill, through the next door... If they do that without having moved up there, looked to see and then come back... They are doing it wrong. Just because it has been that way 35 times before doesn't mean this time we haven't changed things. Go look and see. Find out if we made a change. Then come back to report. Make use of your stealthy characters.
Oh and tell anyone you see that doesn't do it this way to come read this post!

i would think of the spell like (and i know this is star wars but here goes) a sith warlord he is told to be so good at fighting he can see a split second into the future so he can block of make another action. a wizard or sorc could see that split second into the future to take defencive action

Maybe something like the spiderman sense, when the hero is able to sense something is coming and he is in imediate danger. time to dodge or so.
