Howdy all Just want to bring up the issue of deatha and injury and how to RP it.
Death, If im raised in combat ill play it off as though I was knocked down or out depending on the time i was down because saying you died is very unrealistic even for DND. If I die and dont get raised I act as though I return in a very injured state or was dragged back. But you will not here me talk about Jacob dieing (until he perma dies)
Injury, if you hit near death and most players are good about this its not really good RP to run about or start to talk with friends if your hurt your body is screaming in pain youll lay down for abit by the fire and let the wounds heal.
thank you for listening to the rantings of this madman if you have any suggestions on good ways to RP injury or death Im sure alot of people would like to hear them

i roleplay my char being dead and ressurected everytime i have to respawn. there can't be much doubt about your current condition if you wake up in the fugue... if i'm raised i don't RP the effects being as devastating 'cause i never made the trip to the fugue. it would be more like being knocked unconcious as jacob said above. what i would like to discuss is the effects of injury. what happens if you lose a limb? can it be regenerated? i wanna know this because it's always interesting to RP long-term injuries to your char, but it also has to stay true to the game settings. suffering from such a handicap can add another side to your char and produce some great RP. what do the DMs say? what kinds of injuries can be cured by a cleric and how easily?

Eh, I'm not for the being knocked out secnario... Granted there's your pride in play and to admit death is to show that you've messed up... Basically, being raised by a friend is them using magic to violently grab your soul as it moves to the Fugue Plane, and RIP it back into the Prime Material Plane, then FORCE it to return into the body it was previously in. This is mildly draining on both the caster and the dead guy to say the least. In mid battle, I can understand if you are raised you quaff a potion and keep fighting, but afterwards, I expect you to at least break a sweat. My Red Wizard has a habit of leaning on his staff and saying "Ugh..." My two cents. As for limb injuries... Melkroth (one of my chars if no one knows) using a walking stick at any time he is not under some magical effect like Bulls Str, or Endurance, or transformed into a Troll. And it does make interesting RP. The deal with injured limbs is this: Most injuries can be magically treated, BUT... Magical healing costs gold in most places, so most commoners and poor folk use a splint and some bandages for broken limbs and save magical healing for when the farmer's daughter is on her death bed or something.

Just for a little example... that has nothing to do with in game acquired injuries... just a bit of a flaunt I suppose. But I have a character called Handur, whom a few of you have met, and he has gaffhook for his left hand. Ever piece of armor I make for his I adjust the left glove to look like the hook and it is assumed he latches his shield onto said arm to provide a stable defense. When creating the charater I had this in mind... and gave him an 8 dexterity. Not to represent a limp or some such thing, just that his motor skills are VERY handicapped being as he only has one hand. So Injuries I would assume can be recovered... but in some cases you can consider roleplaying it out permanently. Adding a metal gauntlet to all of your outfits and saying it is magical enchanted with an illusion spell or some such thing to be manipulated by you. The possibilities are endless, and though the DM has the last word, its really up to you what you wanna do.

I think I agree with Jacob; If i die and my party runs, lets just say some priest came across me and nurished me back to health, I probably wont play the Character for a day or so anyhow (since i have too many) signifying my recuperation with the hermit/preist, etc. (happens in the movies all the time...) This works for me since I don't die too often. If my party stays with me and would've had the chance to drag me back to town, then I take it as that. If I got killed in PvP (hasn't happened on this sever yet) I think there'd be a lot of RP behind it and I'd never play the character again unless raised by a cleric. Reason for taking death this way is that just by sheer chance you're going to die pleanty in the life of a PC in non-DM-controlled combat due to millions of OC reasons, including the fact that probably most of half a PC's time is in pretty repet. combat and purely blind exploration, lots of time in a Laggy enviroment. That's my interpretation for it, and I'll stick to it feel free to stick to yours! Cheers!
