Kenji furrowed his brow as he gave the sealed letter to a merchant headed for the "Golden Way" - would he honour the agreement and make sure the letter was delivered to her? His honour would hope that it was...
Dearest sister Yuki,
I am writing to tell you again that I have arrived safely back in Cormyr and since first word back from myself, I have been here for about two months. Well, not exactly Cormyr, but the village they call "Isinhold". It is a quaint place, but is very drab, cold and often wet. Lately it was full of undead attacking the place! Some "Lord Jelric", a vampire of some power seeks a vendetta against a local Lady of sorts.
I am training hard. My spars with Manshin and other pupils and visitors to the Windwalker dojo go well. I beat a cleric of Ellistraee, Priestess Innovily, in a sparring match and I was making good progress in a rematch until she cast a "globe of darkness" about the floor... trickery! She is a fine friend though, and a good woman. Ahhh, an elf she is! My apologies sister, I keep writing of things here that are common that I realise are quite uncommon in our lands. "Elistraee" is the goddess of good "drow", the dark variety of elves that live in the "underdark", a dark cavernous area beneath Faerun. It is a dangerous place..
I recently managed to traverse the "Middledark" (a subterranean area which leads to the Underdark) to lead to the magnificient outpost of High Horn. It is one of Cormyr's finest outposts, and a grand design of architecture. It lies within the mountains (not those as high as the Dragonwall, but high enough to leave one devoid of some breath) and is an important part of Cormyr's history I am told. I led this expedition... father would be proud. We had capable archers with us, a good scout and a capable priestess of a god, Ilmater, who is a lord of suffering.. I think, but we ran into a lot of things that would stop us along the way.
Terrible creatures there were here, truly. If the spiders weren't bad enough, there were trolls... yes, TROLLS (Much like an ogre, but the same green colour as a Kappa), who regenerate unless you set their corpses on fire!
At any rate, I hope you are well my dearest sister. I await news of your latest discoveries and news of the family. Give father my warmest greetings. I miss him dearly, even if all he wanted for me to do was work a plough in the fields I hope I have met his expectations and more. I hope I have brought honour to the Kikuta clan as a warrior. Lord Otori's death was avenged. Although I am not able to serve in the absence of my original liege, I bring honour to my family by training under Master Manshin the Wind Walker, who has mentioned I am a promising student. I now serve as a guardian to the Mantis Clan Monastery, and protect all those who cannot protect themselves. I swear on my blades that all of the innocent in this land I will protect from such treachery as was bestowed on Lord Otori by the evil Kotaro Washida.
He lay dead not less than a week after I chased him out of Kara-Tur. My former master is avenged, as you would have heard from the messenger I sent along with Washida's head. I hope the letter I left with him reached you.
The Kikuta family name is restored with honour! I have made friends in Cormyr, and wish to stay here until at least my training is complete. I have no desire to become one of the "ronin" again. Even if my deeds restored the shame of losing my liege, I would not wish to serve another. Now I serve many... all the free people of this land.
May the East Wind, Jikoku, always be with you sister. As memories of the Cherry Blossom of our homeland is always with me in this new land to I.
Signed,
Kikuta Kenji.
