Born and raised in a druid grove outside of Candlekeep, Jorn Tallstag spent most of his days learning the ways of nature. All was well until he decided to follow his parents on a trip to the Battle of the bones. His mother, Ginger, had the intentions of finding a way to restore the land back it's former glory. Upon their arrival, they discovered a strange old crypt which radiated negative energy. His father, Joe, had a bad feeling and tried to persuade Ginger not to enter. She, being of a hard headed nature, entered anyway. After creeping through the crypt, the group came upon a large room with a diabolical, red glowing orb sitting on a pedestal. Jorn saw the orb and decided they should leave it alone. The orb pulsated with a necrotic energy that seemed to lure Jorn's parents to it. After repeated attempts to get them to step away from the orb, Jorn's parents began to change. Their skin began to change to a dull gray. Their eyes began changing. The life seemed to be drawn from their very bodies. Ginger began to shake off the effects of the spell on her mind but not Joe. He had grown razor sharp fangs. She turned and yelled at Jorn to run. Terrified, Jorn ran for his life. Joe lunged out after him but Ginger, with her last bit of self control intact, jumped out in front of him. The two did battle while Jorn fled.
After coming to grips with the fate of his parents, Jorn returned to the grove. Jorn was always a kind person but never was he the most outgoing of men. Therefore, he had few friends that welcomed him back. Remembering the story his father told of his brother, Roland, he decided to travel to Suzail to be with his only remaining relative. He said goodbye to the few friends he had and left for Suzail....
