Although I never officially annouced it, I probably should. I still receive questions frequently and truthfully I dont mind, I've been around this place a while and I think I know the rules pretty well so ask away. However keep in mind I am no longer a DM with FRC and my answers are just that an opinion based on my time here and not the an official DM ruling.
Secondly I would like to direct a comment to some veterans here... we have lots of new players showing up lately and I still continue my habit of greeting new ones when I see them. With that said I have gotten several comments that kind of make me wonder...
My point is just be careful how you 'help' new players, some have never played on a RP server before, heck some may have never even RP'd before, let alone ever read a DnD book, so explaining things to them rather than 'telling' them to do something because its bad may prove better results in the end. I would hate to see a good future RPr leave because someone was harsh, rude or cocky. Keep in mind we were all new to this at one time and NONE of us are experts on RP, we all have our way of doing things.
Anyway just my two cents...

I second that. Regardless if I'm on as a player or as a DM I'll extend a friendly OOC gesture to a person if it's obvious that they are new or are new to RP in this format.
It can go a very long way to improving not only the individual players, but the community as a whole. Even if the player ends up not being right for the server (be it that they prefer something more action oriented or something more HCR style) they can at least go away with the impression that the players and DMs here are open, receptive, and helpful.
