Common Knowledge about Fiendish Cults and Worship on FRC Sources: Faiths and Pantheons, Champions of Ruin
Though rarely practiced openly in civilized Faerun it is believed that worshipers of fiends gather in the shadows or wilderness to perform dark rituals for the power and favor of their masters.
Records from Narfell, Impiltur, Damara and Vaasa, Rasheman, Thay, and the Fall of Myth Drannor provide numerous accounts of fiendish powers and their cults taking a hand in shaping the history of Faerun. Several dark gods are known to be served by the fiends of the Abyss or the Nine Hells. Savage tribes of humanoids and other monstrous creatures have been known to call upon or worship fiendish powers.
Several of these fiendish entities have been taken as gods by some and given enough worship, temples, and sacrifices that their names have become known though rarely spoken openly. Gargauth, said to have been a devil, is now counted among the demigods of Faerun. The Minotaur worship the demonic Baphomet while the Gnolls bow to Yeenoghu. Orcus, the Demon Prince of the Undead, established a presence in the Cold Lands.
It is certain that these fiendish beings sometimes grant their cultists power resembling that which clerics of the gods claim by their faith. The cost of such power is a secret kept by the cults.
