Mages are most mysterious. The change sizes. They change shape. They even change smells. One cannot say they knew where a mage might be, for in the blink of an eye they might be gone! Oh yes, mages are most mysterious. Shunning the ways of reality and adhering to their own nonsensical rules.
Even so, there are some acts which might cause watchers of witches, wizards and sorcerers to raise their brow.
On one such occasion, the well known Meesha Grimm ventures into Skull Crag. A not so strange occurrence, where it not for her sleeveless city dress. Rare was it for her to visit the mountainous town while in a gown. From her cloud of deep black smoke, she marched forward into the Wild Woof Inn all a hurry in her step. With nary a polite nod, nor a simple glance of recognition did she enter her room. What came out next was most odd indeed.

A womanish figure,
gowned in false golden chain,
with a mask of solemn metal hiding their name.
They tossed their used key to the innkeeper and was away in a dash.
Out into the snow as though the moment might be her last.
She called upon steed and rode with all speed,
right past troll and gnoll,
she paid each no heed.
Not till she arrived into the marsh,
did our mask mage concede,
that prudence and caution take over speed.
She traveled alone,
through muck and through flora.
Right past titans of teeth
did she sneak like a thief.
She passed ancient gates where once noble dwarves stead.
She crept through the dark, knowing a misstep may just be her death.
Now what gave her pause was a curious sign.
Past the drow, beholders and spiders that climbed.
'The Unfortunate Orc' it loudly proclaimed.
The first sign of civility in this dark domain.

Our mysterious figure made quite a show,
of gathering resolve and prepping to go.
Through the doors they went,
with an invisible shroud.
Careful to touch no one,
and make nary a sound.
Not till round the corner did they pay heed,
for it was in the library where they did their deed.

Books a plenty were neatly gathered.
Placed upon tables, the subjects that mattered.
Worms, brains, and tentacles,
a unique concoction.

What they hoped to garner?
An odd affliction.
