I don't think I saw a hard/fast rule about this...but what are the DMs rules about multiclassed characters and 1/x builds? *edit: fixed the subject header...my bad...*

pretty much against it. I believe, don't quote me on this, but the last I remember I think we wanted at least 3 levels in a class. Can any other DM confirm this, I'll have to look through the rules and forums. If it isn't in the rules, then we should be making an official statment soon.

While I can't find the actual post to confirm that, I'm positive I'd seen that rule.

Haha... Like everyone else, I've seen the rule... Just not sure where... minimum 3 levels in any class you pick.

So just to get this straight for the newb You cant multiclass a character until you have reached at least 3 levels in a class? What about the second class...do you have to take at least 3 levels before you can multiclass again or even take an aditional level in your original class? Toodles

Ok...well I know of another server where the rule was out there and specific. I'll try checking the FRCPHB when I log in again but I swear I didn't see it. I have a lot of fixing to do if it is that way... ...and if you find the rule some clarification on what one needs to go into a 3rd class would be great too... ...danke...

3 levels in each class by lvl 40. Since that isn't the vast majority I'm going to go out on a limb and say by lvl 20.
**Update we will discuss this further amungst the DMs, but will hold off on an answer until Justi returns from his honeymoon.

After some more yappin':
There is nothing wrong with someone taking 1 level in a particular class. We have no rule against it.
However, what we would like to see is that if you take a class (even if it's just one level of it) that you roleplay that you have that class.
So, say you decide you want to go for Arcane Archer and need that one level of Wizard to be able to have the spell requirements needed for the PrC. We'd probably would like to see you roleplaying your character taking some interest in magic, magic casting, and studying of spells.
In shorter terms, if you take it, play it.
