A small throng of children dare each other to touch the door of Alizarin Academy. A passing merchant asks what they're doing and a child responds, "Don't you know? The vampire Darkharp lives there! EVERYONE knows he eats his students!"
Another child in the throng says nervously, "My cousin's brother's friend was a student there and they never heard from her again!"
"My ma said if you darken their doorstep they come for you in dark of night when the moon hides for fear of their fell power," whispers a young girl.
Shoeman opens the main door of the Academy to go about his daily business and the kids scatter screaming in fear. The merchant goes back to his business, but as he meets people in his day to day tasks the rumors spread quick and fast throughout Marsember because no news spreads faster than juicy gossip.

Listens to the rumors and juicy gossip as always. In particular he smiles under his mask at one part in, "My ma said if you darken their doorstep they come for you in dark of night when the moon hides for fear of their fell power,". "Her mother heard right." he slips away into the Marsember night. |
