The Voice is an invisible NPC that is used by the language widgets and some DM tools. DMs can create them and players also create them when they use their language widgets. You ever notice when your language widget says "Your current voice has been jumped to your location"? That's telling you it moved your Voice NPC so it can translate your language for you. The language widgets and some DM tools (notably the Voice Wand) require an NPC to be present to work. The Voice NPC is an invisible NPC that should not be treated as existing in-character. Its primary function is to hear typed emotes (*sits* *tumbles* *listens*), languages ([This would be in a language]), and both DMs and players talking through NPCs (, Talking through a summoned creature).

When you attempt to use your language widget and it doesn't work, it is generally because The Voice hasn't been jumped to your location like it should be. In such case, if you have more than one language widget, try using one then the other and then the first again. That usually works to get the Voice to come back like it should.

Ahh, yes, The Voice. Ever wonder what loot spawns it has?

Players caught pickpocketing The Voice will be punished. While it should have no loot, players should have the good sense not to find out.

Don't worry, only joking. Although on the server I played on before I came to FRC there was a bug with The Voice, so that sometimes it would toggle as hostile and initiate combat. Found a longsword+1 on it once... ;D

I have accidentally buffed it in the past.. Cast protection from elements on it.. Had sparkles following me around for the longest time...
RPed it as the spirit of some foes that decided to haunt me for alittle while

That's actually true, and no, I am not just messing with you. Although you don't often see the voice, even when you highlight with tab, they can be set to "ditto" mode which allows a DM to hear everything the player says, no matter what area they are in. What I do is attach a voice to every new player I see, and when I login, I watch the chat log for a bit. The one's that already seem to be doing a good job RPing, I'll go interact with. And like I said, the ditto voices usually disappear after the first few seconds -- just because you can't see them, doesn't mean I'm not watching you ~Gallin

Gallin, you are devious, brilliantly devious.
I like it.

Wow.. Guldar was actually right for once.... *looks around for the flying pig* No, Guldar wasn't actually right, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Uh.... because...... Errr.... his intelligence isn't high enough! He didn't make a proper intelligence check, so therefor, he couldn't make that connection, and it doesn't count as him having said it. Whew. For a moment there, I thought the world was going to break ~Gallin

I actually rolled his INT check privately and he succeeded. He was actually right.
I, however, was intentionally not mentioning that The Voice was also used for DM eavesdropping with DM Spy. It wasn't an oversight, I just felt it was one of those things that it was not necessary to mention.

Of course it's necessary to mention it, if players think DMs are looking over everything and anything they do at all times then they'll break less rules, that or become paranoid wrecks... i vote for paranoid.

Oh no, Munroe has been angered! Bring forth the virgin sacrifice. This is a community of online role players, it shouldn't be too hard to scrounge them up.
Let the DMs watch. If you're being good little boys and girls, you have nothing to hide from the happy smiley DM team. And if they aren't being good boys and girls, then the DM team shall visit you and send you to the happy place, where they make everythning better...

Lol, I didn't tell you to make you paranoid. For all you know, my DM avatar is hovering over you, so it's not as though it really changes anything. You should still feel about the standard level of healthy FRC paranoia at all times, to keep your RP in check; no more, and no less (unless you're breaking the rules, in which case you should rest easy knowing that I'm already hunting you).
