Pre-Cormyr history: (Skip if you wouldn't dig into Kalthariam's past, it's just here incase people want to know / would be digging into it)
Kalthariam's records are spotty at best before coming to Cormyr, though if one dug very deep into it, they would be able to trace his origins back to one of two places. The first, more known origins they might bump into, was that of a bandit lord whom went by the family name of Derliam many years ago, whom has since been executed for their crimes upwards of about sixteen-years ago. The bandit tribe seemed to recruit from all sorts of folks, including the normal of humans, elves, dwarves, and others along the lines of Orcs, half orcs, half ogres, Kobolds, lizardmen, and goblinoids. These bandits were well known in the region they were in, and it took many years to root them out and finally put them to the sword, the leader Joseph Derlian, was publicly executed with a smile on his face as he spat at the authorities that had finally caught him. However, if one dug deeper, they would find that Joseph Derlian had no children or Heirs, but did have a brother. The brothers name was Thorimar Derlian. He was a guard captain in the town not too far away from where Joseph Derlian's den was originally found.
However the village was razed, presumably due to a raid, that was later blamed on Joseph Derlian's bandit gang, about twelve years before. Thorimar was much more of a law-abiding man than his brother was, and the two were constantly at odds with each other. While Joseph never settled down, Thorimar did take a wife. Though she was not a local, she was a beautiful woman, her origins are not recorded, however it was striking that all accounts of her were that she was always dressed in stunningly blue outfits, that matched her brilliant almost gem-like blue eyes. She worked alongside Thorimar to make the town prosperous, despite Joseph's attempts to undermine the town. The two were together for several years, before they had a child, however shortly after the child was born, the attack occurred, and she was presumed killed in the attack alongside Thorimar. It is presumed that the child survived the raid specifically due to Joseph the only family he would have left, some speculate Joseph didn't intend his brother and his wife to die in the attack, and took the child out of what little shred of honor and humanity he still had left in him. Others would claim Joseph was a monster, and forcibly took the child, with the intention of corrupting the child to being more like Joseph to spite his now dead brothers memory. However the prosperous town was Razed, and everything that was once there was left in nothing but ashes and ruins. Every bit of treasure that possibly could have existed in the town, both in coin, food, materials, and other potentially valuable things, was gone, as said eariler, Joseph was blamed for the raiding, however no accounts ever confirm nor deny that he actually committed the attack.
Kalthariam as a child grew up inside of Joseph's bandit camp, interacting with countless different races of all sorts and backgrounds as he did so. It's believed this shaped his later perceptions of the different races across the realm. There isn't much fully known about his youngest years, however it is known that the child never participated in any of the raids, robberies, or murders that were common for Joseph's camp. The child was about the age of 13 or 14 when an adventuring group attacked Joseph's camp. He was found tending to the prisoners of the camp, and was taken alongside the prisoners, due to his age, no one considered him to be a threat, as the child was unarmed, and seemed rather well-mannered.
Losing the only family he had left, Kalthariam found himself in another small town, and grew up under the watchful eye of the church that was there. It was a polytheist church, with several small shrines to various deities. He was already good at doing menial chores, and would quickly prove he knew how to defend himself from his time in the camp, and eventually at the age of sixteen, he attempted to become a squire to a Paladin of Lathander that lived in the village. Though, this lasted only about six-months. During a particularly brutal winter in the area. Accounts state that the town was suffering from thieves, it seemed to be of food mostly, it wasn't quite enough to put the town in any sort of danger, but many noticed, and complained, blaming a nearby tribe of half-orcs for the thefts, though without proof, and due to the winter conditions, they simply bunkered down and kept a watchful eye. Kalthariam ended up being the one to find the thief, a young half-orc whom was never named in records, was found to be guilty of stealing the supplies. However, Kalthariam was not the one that turned them in. Seeing the half-orcs condition, knowing the storm, and with the Half-orcs pleading for mercy, Kalthariam found himself attempting, to cover up the orcs stealing, in his mind he knew he'd never get the town to sympathize with the half-orcs, the town already had a very hostile attitude towards the lot, so instead of possibly causing the whole tribe to starve, his morality told him that despite stealing being wrong, condemning the tribe to death due to the elements and lack of food would have been worse.
Kalthariam managed to hide the missing food for a short while, making it almost seem like the thieves were not a thing, and staging things to look like vermin were stealing the goods, Kalthariam almost got away with it all winter long, however, it was a stroke of terrible luck that he was caught with the half-orc, seeming to discuss what supplies would not be missed. The events that unfolded afterwards were rather swift, and unfortunately brutal. Kalthariam tried to cover the escape of the half orc, but they were captured, and summarily executed on site, Kalthariam himself was heavily punished for his actions, and stripped of his title as squire, and cast out of the village at the start of spring. Leaving him on his own still at the age of Seventeen. Kalthariam did not handle the situation well. The scenario constantly playing out in his head over, and over again. What had he done wrong.. what mistake had he made? What did he do that lead to the half-orc, whom he was growing fond of as a friend, and was slowly building a kin-ship with, to be so brutally executed? He could only reminisce about the conversations the two had had.. plans, plots, the like to try to bring both sides closer together, to get past this hatred the two sides seemed to have. Kalthariam was not there when the Orcish tribe retaliated against the village for the death of one of their kinsmen. It's said both villages were broken by the massive attack, the town held out against the orcs, but lost too many people sustaining the town was impossible, and most moved on, the orcish tribe as well lost their leader, and a majority of their kinsmen, and were written off as causalities to the next winter that came.
The more recent history of Kalthariam, between him leaving this village, and eventually coming to Cormyr is very much nearly impossible to follow. The lad did not settle down in another town, and quickly seemed to work himself to the path of being an adventurer. Due to his nature to bounce from town to town, doing jobs here and there, it's difficult to track any distinctive track in Cormyrean records, until he showed up at the gates of Cormyr, to be registers to enter the kingdom and adventure in the kingdom, like many, many others before him.
History in Cormyr:
Kalthariam Derlian doesn't have too many major events under his belt as an adventurer in Cormyr, if anything his first two months there was a constant struggle. He found himself tossing himself at beast, man, and monster alike constantly, struggling to make coin, and fighting like he had something to prove. Though despite his somewhat mercenary attitude early on, he still seemed like a generally well mannered Fellow, whom got along with just about anyone, as long as they didn't give him a reason not to get along with them. His most well known traveling Companion was a Elf, that he called "Anen" the elf, and early on another young adventurer whom went by the name "Rith". After meeting these two, his more mercenary attitude towards traveling in Cormyr seemed to slowly dull, and a brighter more welcoming attitude seemed to take it's place. The three seemed to work together constantly, and could be seen running here and there and all about all the time. Eventually though, one of the Trio, Rith, seemed to come around less and less, it's not quite known exactly at this time what became of the bard, but Kalthariam and Anen are still often seen together to this very day.
In his journeys, he's been assisting other adventurers, and group parties as a frontline warrior, Warhammer in one hand, Shield firmly planted in the other. He's been involved in a few minor events in saving townsfolk, and other adventurers from injury, death, and other horrors. He's also often seen delving into Crypts, taking almost a sportsman like thrill in battling the restless dead and putting them back to their eternal slumber, during his adventures. Kalthariam seemed to develop an almost divine-like ability similar to that employed by paladins, though it was weak, he spent many weeks attempting to discover the source of this sudden ability, and ever since his blue eyes seemed to hum with a soft glow that enhanced the already pleasant blue color to a more striking one, which only grows more vivid as his powers seem to grow.
Kalthariam was also seen at the shieldmeet, participating in many mid-range tournament events, while he did not perform spectacularly like other of the competitors, he was seen the entire time with a smile, and he clearly fought and competed on to the best of his ability, managing to find the bright side of his defeats, and claiming to have learned a great deal about both himself, and those around him, and found the overall experience to be both a pleasant one, and one full of opportunity for him to both grow, physically, but socially with many others in the land, meeting dozens of new faces, forming new interactions and bonds with others, and learning much by fighting many of the other more experienced fighters in the realm participate in the events.
One of the more noteworthy events Kalthariam's been involved in, was with an incident involving a Silver-scaled Kobold, in Service to the Lord of the North Wind, the young man worked tirelessly to track down this missing priest, he had a rather long campaign in regards to their safe return, and he seemed to stick by this with a fierce determination and resolve that never faltered, even in the face of those whom would openly question why he would even care. Despite everything, eventually his search ended, when he was, without any sort of attempt at secrecy, spirited away in the middle of the Greatgaunt, for many to see. Upon arriving at his destination, he was met by a large Silver dragon whom claimed to be a messenger of the lord of the north winds himself. Kalthariam was given a divine token from the dragon, with the token gift from the dragon, Kalthariam could only bring himself to ask a single question to the large silver dragon, the whereabouts, or just the condition of the kobold he was hunting. His answer was one that brought him great relief, in learning that the kobold was safe. From there, Kalthariam took up his duties as a Champion of the Lord of the North wind fully. The Amulet he was given both awakening his powers more fully, as well as protecting him for his many trials still to come in the Lands of Cormyr.
Publicly Known Skills, Equipment, Abilities:
Kalthariam does not remotely hide the fact he is a frontline fighter, the young man's build is rather sturdy, and can weather a beating far beyond what your average adventurer handles. He's often adorned in fully blue-colored armor, his current suit of armor made from Blue Dragon scales, Mithril, and fine silks. The armor itself hums with magical energy, the same that once was inside of the beast whose hide it once was, and has an added benefit of seeming to repel water, much to his delight. He's often seen wielding an Adamantine Hammer, whose craftmanship is to the credit of a Dwarven Smith by the name of Delvar. He's also seen with a shield and hammer often.
While his powers are still developing, outside of being a trained martial fighter, Kalthariam also seems to have access to several divine abilities, though seems to still struggle with magic as a whole. He's able to Heal minor wounds with a touch, or as he once put it, "Punch a Skeleton and make it explode". As well as channel an inner divine strength into a powerful smiting attack, he's also been seen breifly channeling this divine power to give himself an edge in combat if he is in a tight spot.
Kalthariam also seems to have a somewhat adequate ability to pick into locks, deal with traders, and treat the wounded with non-magical medicines, he's also surprisingly nimble on his feet despite wearing heavy plate armor, and slips in and out of combat relatively easily avoiding attacks that might hit a less nimble fighter.
