Hello DMS and characters alike!
I have an idea for the base of a quest that would help further Aria's story and I'd love to discuss it and see if any DMs are interested in running it and if any characters are interested in helping Aria with it?
The backstory would be this thread! Aria has wanted to animate a book to be ... somewhat like a familiar... since she saw the animated books in the elven ruins near Greatgaunt. Not only that, she found an animated tome in the kobold caves. Or, rather, Emorikal did and gave it to her. Then, oddly, she and he also found performers gloves, performers cloak, and a performer's ring in the same exact spot at different times, many weeks apart.
At this point, she's flabbergasted that the kobolds would have so many pieces that would fit her so well. She thinks it's weird, while Emorikal simply says it's fate.
So! With that being said, Aria is a bard and sorcereress, (Figher 1/Bard 4/Sorceress 1) though she only recently found out she had sorceress capabilities and it happened by accident. She was reading over draconic language notes in her journal when her pixie Quill showed up and startled her.
I'd like to tie this book into how she discovers and learns more about her sorcery abilities/history. I'm really open on how it plays out as long as she gets to stay a follower of Tyr and be LG - even if it tests her somehow.
A little backstory because I've not quite written her bio yet:
She is an average girl who grew up in TSM - Rivermoot - a small town where adventurers were lively and always around sharing stories. Her uncle owned the local inn and she spent many nights listening to stories of worry and woe from adventurers, but also saw first hand some of the tragic things that can happen to a town in TSM.
She was mentored by an epic bard (Mellani Lorata) who taught her the draconic language, encouraged her to pursue her bardic talents, and who shared each and every story with her about her own adventures. (From riding a Balor, to fighting werechickens, to falling secretly in love with a half-dragon). She snuck out to Furin's Furnace, where she learned of many types of weapons and armors from the dwarf himself. She sat on the floor of Rappi's general store and listened to the halfling explain how to set and disarm traps, even picked up a bit on how to pick locks (in times of self-preservation only, of course), she took sword swinging lessons from nearly any adventurer who would help her out on the cliff behind her uncle's inn, and she worked with the leader of the local militia, an ornery elf, who showed her how to properly use and care for a long bow.
Despite her desperate want to join the adventurers, Aria's parents vehemently disagreed and felt she should stay in Rivermoot, in relative safety, and work within the family business, which was a supply line from neighboring cities to Rivermoot. They felt the family was well-off enough to live a long, safe, wealthy life and it was plenty of adventure to travel the roads and fight off the few bandits that decided to rob the caravans.
Aria wasn't having it and despite being told they would never financially support her if she decided to leave and lead a life of adventure, she left home just after she turned 18, headed for Cormyr in search of her own stories.
Upon her arrival in Greatgaunt she's met many people. She's become closest to Emorikal. A fellow follower of Tyr, who also happens to be from the Silver Marches. Talking with him is both comforting and painful. He's a piece of home away from home, but when she's missing home, it hits all the harder.
Overall, she favors balance. She adores magic, yet hates to see it in the hands of those who use it for evil. She thrives on the thrill of the adventure, but when she is sitting still, she loves to read, write, draw, and learn. She loves to sing, but is worried she's not good enough, so only does so alone or quietly. She's just figuring out sorcery and still doesn't know how it skipped so many generations to come to her. Her only memory of sorcery in her family is a great-aunt (who she barely knew, and only heard stories of briefly). She's excited and scared at the same time, and as a 18 year old, that's pretty typical. She's quite at home with the myriad of people around Cormyr, but sometimes it makes her miss home that much more. She's learning the value of coin that she didn't know she had until she left home without it. It's been almost a year since she left and she hasn't communicated with anyone back home since.
**Sidenote: I'm not sure if it's possible to have a book as a familiar, but is it possible to have a book as your summon, for like ever? That's what I was hoping for? Something that she connects with, keeps notes in, etc, but that she can summon to help her in battle if needed (that would also level up with her).
