Born the eldest son of young peasant farmers, Alderic's life should have been quiet and lackluster. However, around his 4th birthday, his parents and younger sibling perished in a "spontanious" and catastrophic fire.
Alderic was discovered by a wandering monk sitting sobbing, naked but unharmed, in the ashes of the small shack which was once his home, clutching what appeared to be the badly scorched remnants of a stuffed bear. With nobody around to claim the child, the monk took him with him back to his monestary as an orphan.
The remainder of Alderic's childhood consisted of martial excercises which he took to almost begrudgingly, interspersed with occasional incidents of inexplicable fires igniting whenever Alderic became excessively vexed by something. Never able to conclusively prove any link to Alderic (even though it was suspected), the kindly monks simply persisted in training him in the hopes that once his mind became more ordered, "whatever was causing the problem" would simply cease to be.
That was until shortly after he passed his neophyte trials and was inducted as a monk himself. The head abbot of the monestary made a simple request for Alderic to clean out the stables, and saw Alderic's eyes "flare red" as the hair atop his head burst into flame. Unable to ignore the situation any longer, Alderic was cast out of the monestary, and ordered to seek a solution to his odd pyromaniacle "gifts".
Early in his travels, he cast aside his order's typical following of Torm, in favor of the enlightenment and knowledge of Mystra - however the Mistress of the Weave has so far turned a deaf ear to his prayers (or so he believes). Alderic even sought out a wizard to apprentice under briefly, however he was turned aside from that too with the mage informing him he's "too stupid to make a good mage, and lacking the dedication to even be a bad one".
The only thing remarkable about his earlier travels after that was that Alderic seemed to be almost unable to die, in spite of what could be deemed "earnest efforts" to affect that outcome. As a marginally competant neophyte monk, his lack of dedication to his childhood studies and resultant poor combat effectiveness saw him brought to death's door on numerous occasions - however he always seemed to be found by strangers at the last moment, and recovered to begin the process anew. That pattern continued even as he entered (or re-entered) Cormyr, and even Alderic was feeling cursed to wander the lands as an incompetant monk forever.
