It kind of bothers me that it is consideres immeraion breaking to gallop a few screens of travel on a horse, or ve attempting to increase your own personal endurance (I run to work everyday and randomly other times just to save time in real life).
But you the caravan system is not immersion breaking? Oh you need to go to Vaulkur and back to exchange your coin? You will be back before I am even done eating on that "walking pace caravan". Oh i left hours before you did somewhere and somehow you beat me because, hey, caravans?
I feel a more limited travel system would encourage more travelera on the road. Like caravans tickets can only be traded in at x hours of in game day (which has nothing to do of your real life time zone). So like caravans might run some time in morning, afternoon and evening. But periods in between where one has to wait. This jas nothing to do if soneone else is using the caravan. You just can not teleport to Vaulkur or wherever ar the drop of a hat without actaul magic. This would also encourage people to choose homes out of the new player town. Its harder to find a party because a bunch of high levels are constantly loitering in a town with very little economical and, or political power. Not that other new players are not there, but its like finding a needle in a haystack and playing the guessing game sometimes.
I think a less convenient fast travel system, even if its mostly slanted againdt great gaunt, would help spread the player base.

Here is the thing. Due to their character or rp, caravan or ship is the preferred method of travel for some. Not all like to walk or ride horses. Even though it is quick, people in general rp it takes awhile to get to and from. Recall stones could be added and make pricey. They are one shot use but can be kept in reserve.

If other players have to waste say an extra half hour to walk vs run in some area involving monsters for sake of immersion, why can not the peoole who prefer caravans wait 0 to 18 minutes (depending when the next interval is). They can even RP in town while they are waiting.

I'm not a big fan of the caravan system by trade.
It allows my pc's to insta-get-to-next-dungeon too quickly. For someone that plays a lot, it really is too luxurious.
My spells don't get unbuffed either when caravaning. This means there is no sense of "time scope" and the necessary "distance" perspective either.
But what I do like...
I like the hard work the FRC builders put in. The caravan system allows me to go to places difficult to reach, and perhaps difficult to have been made.
I get to appreciate the art and efforts that creators put in place.
Lastly, for those that 'do' lack game play time by and large, and want to be able to go to their friends quicker...there's charm in the system for that.
I do think 'go to all the cities instantly' is a bit gratuitous, but I'm unsure what a best solution is to appease the mass'.
by the by .. I was under the impression you 'could' gallop from exterior-area-to-exterior-area. But not through towns.

Its harder to find a party because a bunch of high levels are constantly loitering in a town with very little economical and, or political power. Not that other new players are not there, but its like finding a needle in a haystack and playing the guessing game sometimes. Try announcing your destination. This is a much easier way of gathering interested people. The high level characters are not actually stopping anything from happening, it's not like they're quick-farming some resource that you then can't have...the other low level characters are still there to find. FWIW, high levels gather in greatgaunt for the same reason you do...to find people to adventure with. At what point during YOUR career should you be kicked out so others can have more silence in which to cry out, "Goblins anyone?" Should it be next year some time, next week, or would people lower than you think you're in their way already? Level 10 looks pretty high when you're first starting out, and levels 1-5 have the worst time finding parties. More on topic...I do not find the caravans immersion breaking. Think it's weird that they ran off to Espar and back in ten minutes? How weird is it that this town only has one shop that buys from adventurers, and they buy EVERYTHING, no matter what, every time? What possible market could Garrot have for half-eaten-seagulls and ogre nose-rings? You can have your immersion back by simply ignoring the mechanics of the situation entirely. Guy goes away for ten minutes, returns with sale proceeds. Sounds pretty normal to me.

If it was only ten minutes, then nothing should stop us from sprintimg to said destinations. And i try avoiding, find it really weird, to walk in middle of town and go "goblins anyone?". I understand some characters can, but i prefer to organically encounter people rather thsn loitering and repeating the same question every 15 minutes.
What having less high levels around does do, is me not have the feeling that every individual i randomly bump into is probably a lord who's time id be wasting.

What having less high levels around does do, is me not have the feeling that every individual i randomly bump into is probably a lord who's time id be wasting. With respect, this is unfair. My characters are 13, 18 and 24. Many times they are excluded because of this. My character's often offer advice or maybe offer on low spell. Yes traveling with one more than ten levels does cause less loot to be gather and no xp gained but role play adventure as these are called can be rewarding in themselves offer valuable in game knowledge.
Marister is my first character here and often I would travel with people over ten levels(usually not more than 12). He learned a lot and was able to handle himself and many thought he was higher than he was.
Regardless of levels, people have a right to gather where ever they choose. All higher levels were once low.
The curse of time change makes things difficult. As some others have done, you can "post" in the forum what type of adventures you seek and have interested parties maybe pm you to arrange a meet up. Some do not like this but some do.
Instead of saying "Goblins anyone?" You could say something like, 'I heard there are goblins about. Can anyone tell me about them?"

I never said higher level characters should be banned from areas. What i am suggesting is to change the environment in such a way, such as fast travel, that people will naturally want to hang out somewhere else. So the town recommended for people to start in it would make it there goal to move on from that place unless they consider it home or whatever RP reasons.

May players have formed in game travel groups or are members of guilds or organizations and have met elsewhere.
The ability to come and go is there and it is the player's choice of where they wish to be.

This is an old discussion and many of us have scars on our heads from beating them against the walls on the epics in gg issue. Might have an easier time solving world hunger.
Issue is everyone goes there and even if a new spot pops up for rp everyone knows gg is there and they have the best chance to find someone there. Outside of gg burning down to the ground not sure there is anything you can do about it. I like the idea of no wagons tho. Ppl would have to stay near places they wanna be active in.
Even if gg was a pile of Ash u would still see ppl sitting against a burned out stump and the remains of an old rickety fence. I guarantee it

Drive out the high level merchants...complain no gear is available
Also worth saying, I’ll switch characters to interact with lower levels.

Again, i feel there are multiple people misunderstanding me. I don't want to hinder the freedom od choice. I just want to make some choices more appealing so there is a real choice to begin with (like which town to hangout).
And i actaully wouldnt mind traveling with higher levels at all, Im purely an archer after all. They usually mind I find, heck my level was brought when just trying to join a guild I thought would suit my character.
Natural economics and the issues of time spent traveling are natural driving forces in any world and I feel would help create more RP oppurtunity than it would prevent.
That's just my take. Don't think I am trying to tell you where you can or can not go. I am just trying to brainstorm a more natural eb/flow of characters trying moving up the polticial/economic chain of the world.

An increase in other area interactions. Like the events coming out og gusnt would do well to drag folk away.
When the reserves are having a big swing Valkurs Roar becomes full of wandering folk.
The biggest trick is creation of purpose

Gotta put seeds in first. Then players can self sustain it via personal rp and stories. The DMs are as ever the launch pad. Im uncertain that a travel system adjustment would cause a systmativ culture shift more than a growth plot for other areas of the realm.
