A redheaded woman arrives in the Five Fine Fish inn one evening, greets the resident bard Ward, cordially, in spite of being reprimanded for the lack of tartan in his second understudy. She claims being off-duty and takes the bard to the bar for a drink and a chat with him, the innkeeper, and a few locals about the strange rumours the caravan driver had been on about all along the ride: The curious story about some farmhand poking about some haunted farmstead close to town and about how he returned strangely changed and keeping a snake as a pet. After gathering some more vague rumours that the locals could not explain how they related to the first, though they obviously thought they did, even if the only connection was that they all featured the word snake in one way or another, the whole group kept looking back over their shoulders at that back room rented by that strange collector. After looking around the patrons for a bit, the woman shrugged, flashed them all a bright smile, tossed some coins on the bar, patted Ward's back, and headed over to the back room for another chat, this time presumably with an expert.
