Gardrak traveled to the Oghrann mine to survey the problem presented by the cyclops. It didn't take long before he found himself surrounded promptly. As the shamans uttered their foul magics he gave them the opportunity to flee and carry word that Oghrann would not be tolerating their presence around their mine any longer. When shamanic magics encountered protective runes Gardrak began turning them all to stone. He then nailed a message upon one of the stone statues. "Your presence will no longer be tolerated by Clan Oghrann. If you persist in populating the lands about our mine you will leave us and our shipments alone or suffer our wrath." He then checked the supplies in the mine to ensure things were properly prepared and began the walk back to the hold.

Helgrin wiped the blood off his axe as he looked across the valley, his old eyes still able to pick out the signs of of yet another cyclops band that seemed to infest these hills. Squaring his shoulders he set off to remind yet another group that this place was no longer one where they could walk without fear. A reckoning was coming and if the sight of another cyclops raiding party cut down didn't get the message through to theses bastards, the blade of his axe would see to it that it did.

The dwarven woman Delin makes her own trip to the valley where the mine is located. She does not scour the hills, nor does she go on a homicidal spree. Instead she locates the smallest group of cyclops she can- if possible, one on its own. She carefully plants down the four spears she had brought with herself, stabbing their points deep into the wet earth, the metal glinting slightly in the moonlight. Then, she advances to call out a challenge. She twists a stone upon her wide belt, and her form is replaced with that of a massive iron golem. The brawl with the cyclops is long and grueling, but the dwarf does not use the golem's massive claws to cut. Instead she beats the cyclops to within an inch of its life, using her greater size, weight, and durability to remove any chance of victory from the unfortunate giant-kin. Its own weapons, not being magical, cannot penetrate her iron hide. When the beating is thorough enough to keep the cyclops from moving much, she dismisses the magical form. She returns to her spears and collects them, two at a time. They are used to pin the injured cyclops to the ground while it is too worn and beaten to move. Every action is calculated, business-like, and the wounds inflicted are done so as to keep from fatal damage- at least immediately. Once the creature is pinned, she speaks to it in common, instructing it and all its kin to leave the area. To punctuate the point, she would draw a knife and carve the Dethek runes for such a command into its chest. She leaves the unfortunate victim there in the dark, wounded and beaten but alive, pinned to the ground with cold steel.

Arak learns of the message that Delin delivered. When Arak conducts his regular weekly patrol in the Lost Valley, he finds it empty. "Between Gardrak's and Delin's extraordinary measures, and the patrols that Grimm, Helgrin, Manus, and I have mounted, perhaps the cyclopes have moved on. It may be safe for the miners to start work, but best not be hasty. We'll see what we find in next 10-day."

Gardrak clears out any cyclops around the Oghrann mine entrance by turning some to stone, dominating some to fight their kin, and having his azer kill any that try to fight. To those that flee he yells, "These are Oghrann lands now. Flee and live or return and suffer our wrath!"

The trapper Delin returns to the valley once again. This time she comes fully armed, armored, and looking for a fight. She endeavors to kill or incapacitate any cyclops she finds in the area, before setting to her real work. Only after her massive greataxe is blooded and the area is quiet does she gather parchment and ink from her bags. With these she sketches a rough map of the area, paying the most attention to any easy entrances to the valley. After sketching the area, she removes her true tools- her trapper's kit and prepared snares. She begins to locate and place these deadly implements, heavily favoring blades and steel. She sets up most so that they might cause permanent wounds or render those springing them incapable of combat, sized for the typical cyclops. Blades are set to swing into legs or arms, spikes aimed to be shot into eyes, and razor wire is spread to catch those that might trip or fall from their injuries. More wire is set to catch those fleeing, designed to cinch and pull tighter with any struggle. Most are set to release with a heavy weight, such that the size or weight of a cyclops might inadvertently bring to bear. Near the corpses she had created, she sets others. Traps to fling acid in a wide arc, and in one case she plants a number of alchemical fire jars into the mutilated chest of a dead cyclops. These are set so as to go off should a being get too close in their investigation of these deaths. She moves around the valley in a most methodical fashion, marking her simple map with each snare and a short note in Dethek runes of its type and strength. Wherever an easy path around her existing traps exists, she sets more snares. They hide in the tall grass or use triggers around tree roots for cover. Around the entrance to the mine, she sets several different traps to the rest. These carry thunderstones, poised to give alarm and make deaf any cyclops who might stray too closely. Across the entrance itself is a thin tripwire, keyed to release a massive jolt of lightning from charged quartz. Finally she makes her way around the valley in its entirety, stepping gingerly to avoid her own works. She marks the last snare on her map and carefully rolls it up, before once again gathering her axe and preparing to leave.

Delin and Arak met in the Wild Wolf Inn on the last day of Kythorn, 1381. Delin described her visit to the Lost Valley. She also provided a map, showing where she laid the traps.
After the meeting, Arak took up his pen and notified to the Hammers. ((See the Hammers’ forum and related PM threads.))
