//So, Monica writes books! Yeah! You can buy them from her IC, or pretend you bought them from a bookstore, I guess! Seeing as reading even a summary of a book in an in game item description would be a pain, I figured I'd write them here for people who buy one in game ... and people whose characters would never buy a cheesy amnian novel but who totally wanna know OOC what nonsense I came up with. :p
Enjoy!//

Thawing Hearts
by Monica Noakesburrow
Special Thanks to my Editors, Leilei and Trevor!
This is a horribly cheesy book, full of overly long descriptions of just how attractive both the male and female protagonists are. The author clearly liked being overly dramatic, too... in other words, a typical amnian romance novel!
Foreword:
Even many years after the loss of his beloved wife, Fernando thought nothing could ever touch his frozen heart again - until his quest for vengeance leads the fallen paladin to meet Camilla, the strange wizardess who holds the key to finding the White Witch which took everything from him...
But can he succeed in his quest? Will he regain the favour of Lathander or slip further into the darkness? And how did Camilla even come into possession of his enemies secrets?
Find out in this thrilling tale of romance and adventure!
Prologue:
It starts adventury! Dispatching the last remnants of a horrible undead horde, Fernando, finds himself in the ruins of what once was his home, craddling the dead body of his wife in his arms. Overcome with grief, the paladin curses Lathander whom he felt abandoned by in his hour of need, and swears vengeance upon the mysterious White Witch whose minions had destroyed the town as they plundered its Temple of Deneir.
Chapter 1:
Having spent years tracking the White Witch and finally learning of a clue by rather unpaladinlikely rough-housing some low-live criminals, Fernando finds himself in an ancient library deep in the deserts in search of the Sage Camilla, rumored to know where to find the elusive White Witch!
An excerpt:
Tightening his grip around his trusty blade, Fernando carefully set one foot in front of the other, his mighty back pressed against the cool stone of the wall. He could tell it was coming closer, the sound of wings beating! What dread beast awaited him? Should he face it or hope for it to pass? But what was there to gain by fighting? Calming his breath, the warrior stood still.
The beating came closer... closer... wait! Was that a woman's scream he heard?
'Stop! Stop! Ahhh!'
It was! All care forgotten, the fallen knight leaps into action, his well-trained body whirling around the corner, his long raven hair whipping behind him! Ripping up his sword to strike, he steels his resolve to face whatever beast awaits!
And yet, his mind freezes as he finally lays eyes upon his fearsome aerial foe, pages flapping up and down most threateni... wait, what?
The book zaps past him, pages misused as wings. Flabbergasted he blinks a few times and follows it with his gaze, lowering his blade.
'Huh, where did... ahhh!'
Snapping out of it, he turns, but too late! Something slams into him, a whirl of golden locks covering his field of view, the dusty scent of forgotten secrets replaced by a faint hint of lavender. For all his strength, he cannot keep his footing in the sand covering the floor, and finds himself tumbling to the ground!
'Uff... oh my, sorry deary, are you... '
He glances up at the gentle voice. It stops as his hazel eyes meet the icy blue of hers. A few stray rays of light breaking through the ravaged ceiling above illuminate her face, youthful features framed by hair the colour of the setting sun, flawless skin too pale for one who had spent much time in the merciless desert heat and too cold to not be warded from it by way of magic.
Their gaze remain locked for but a moment, yet it seems an eternity to him... she opens her mouth again, her breath tickling the skin of his throat.
'Ahh! It's getting away!'
The woman leaps up, green robes fluttering around him like a teenage girls heart at the sight of her beloved! Quickly picking up her staff and placing an almost criminally adorable little hat back upon her head, she dashes off after the rogue tome!
'Stay heeeeere!'
After catching up with Camilla and her elusive book,, Fernando's tale of grief convinces the at first hesitant sage to aid him in his quest to find the vile necromancer who took everything from him!
Chapter 2:
The book switches to Camilla's point of view as Fernando and her make their way back to civilization. Her inner dialogue makes it apparent she knows the White Witch, and doesn't think it will end well for Fernando (or herself!) to meet her, so she decides to take it upon herself to get that silly idea out of his head and show him there's better things to pursue in life than vengeance!
The pair encounters a group of desert nomads and share their camp with them at night (time used to get to know another!), only for a giant bird, the legendary Roc, to abduct one of the nomad's camels in the morning - and the boy riding it!
Fernando is conflicted, but none the less decides to continue his quest regardless of what fate will befall the kid… until our heroine convinces him to do the right thing! Could the man who rushed to her rescue really abandon this poor child to be eaten by a monster? Of course not, and off they go to track down the Roc!
Chapter 3:
After an arduous track through the desert, our intrepid heroes must brave a treacherous climb to reach the Roc's nest! Fernando demonstrates his bravery, and the boy is rescued out of the beasts claws at the very last moment - but at what cost! Slammed of the cliff by the dying predator, our fallen - well, falling - knight fears his end has come, but is grasped at the last moment by Camilla, her magic letting them gently float down the cliff in each other's arms... more bonding ensues! And even more ... rather steamy... bonding after the two part ways with the overjoyed nomads and find themself resting at an oasis under a starry sky...
Chapter 4:
The book switches back to Fernando's point of view as he broods over 'betraying' his dead wife. Camilla too seems bothered by something, but he can't quite figure out what it is... Eventually, she reveals she might know a way to defeat the White Witch... the book she chased in the ancient library showing the way to the lost vault of a Sultan of old, the prison of his Djinn Slave!
Abandoning their course for civilization, our protagonists must descend into the caverns below the desert to find the lost vault! After navigating deadly traps, solving a laughably easy riddle and defeating a tremendous statue that most surprisingly comes to live to stop intruders, they find the genie's lamp. In accordance with ancient genie law, the otherwordly blue man grants them three wishes!
Fernando attempts to resurrect his wife, but her soul refuses to leave the embrace of heaven, unfortunately wasting the first wish. His second is to strike down the White Witch, but alas, rather than kill her, the genie summons a golden scimitar that he claims will allow Fernando to do just that and avenge his wife!
Saving up their third wish, the two set out towards the White Witch's lair...
Chapter 5:
After a brief timeskip, our heroes, still acting quite awkward around another after their steamy bonding, find themselves navigating a treacherous marsh to find the Tower of the White Witch. After facing many dangers and hordes of undead minions, they finally stand before her...
An excerpt:
This couldn't be.
He did not believe that.
He knew that face, that angelic face he had caressed, which’s splendor had burned itself into his very soul. He knew that body, knew its embrace, knew the feeling of that skin on his, the touch of those lips and the sound of that voice.
'What is this...?'
The White Witch speaks in a voice so familiar yet so different, malice rather than innocence filling each word, the flawless white of her pristine robes and marble skin only disturbed by the locks that frame her youthful face, hair the colour of the setting sun, her eyes sparkling orbs of icy beauty. An almost criminally adorable little hat rests on her head.
'Ca... Camilla?'
He utters, mind blank with confusion as he turns towards his companion.
Camilla's face is frozen, her gaze turned down. Slowly she raises it to stare at the Witch, her perfect mirror image but for the color of their garb…
A wicked laugh escapes the witch as she continues. 'Camilla! Deary, deary, what is the meaning of this? I tasked you with finding the Lost Vault, and rather than do my bidding, you bring some ridiculous man into my realm?'
Fernando bellows, his mighty chest heaving!
'What is the meaning of this, is what I would like to know! Camilla! Why does this fiend bear your face, why does her wicked voice remind me of your gentle tone, why-'
His voice fails him as six more women step into the room - each as beautiful as the last, each the other’s mirror but for the robe in a different color of the prism. The Witch, that vile thing wearing his Camilla's form, speaks again:
'Deary, deary... I do not have her face... she has mine.'
He pales as he regards the witch once more, his mind racing. How? Why? Did precious, kind Camilla betray him? A trap? No, she could never!
'Oh, this is just too delicious, deary!'
The wicked wizardess chuckles, her laughter as pale and empty as the white she wears.
'You don't even know! Well, but how would you? Clearly she'd not tell you this ... ‘
Her expression a cruel smile, she licks her lips briefly before she continues.
'Ahh… this woman… this woman is no woman at all! She is but an illusion, a puppet fashioned in my image out of the winter snow, given a mind by the mere shadow of a soul...
My will is her desire! Her thoughts echo my mind, her 'life' but borrowed from mine! Her heart nothing but a slap of ice, unfeeling, uncaring ... mm... oh, now, now I see!'
Grinning deviously, the witch saunters past him, cupping one of Camilla's cheeks in her hand, her voice coming as but a whisper.
'You thought this fallen paladin would make a good leader for my armies, did you not, deary? Mm... those do make the most magnificent of undead slaves... well done! Oh, deary, deary, for a moment I had almost doubted your loyalty, my little puppe-'
'N-no'
The slender body of the green Witch shakes, her voice trembling as if to utter but this one word was a task almost beyond her. Her body shakes once, more and it erupts from her!
'NO!'
Camilla's face twisting in anger, she slams her staff against her mistress...
And so battle ensues against the witch and her copies, and the genies words prove true! With Camilla's magic to aid him, Fernando's golden sword strikes true, defeating the Wicked White Witch - but at what price! For as it pierces the evil mage's heart and digs into her flesh, her copies fall just as she does... Once more, Fernando finds himself craddling a dying love in his arms, her body of snow slowly melting away as the two finally admit their feelings for another…
But all is not lost - remembering he has a wish yet left, Fernando calls out to the Djinn once more and wishes for Camilla to be returned to him a real woman... but only silence answers him.
And just as he loses hope… a slender hand enters his field of view, picking up an almost criminally adorable little green hat…
THE END
//Wha- you actually made it here? Bah, you're probably just one of those horrible people who read the ending first! If not... have a cookie (::)
You deserved it!
Enjoy!//
