[Mid evening of this day]
A sudden clash of swords in Valkur's Roar! A rush of dark figures, first clandestinely slinking, but then brazenly overpowering the guards!
Calls for reinforcement bring more nearby guards, who are overpowered in turn. Disabled men litter the bloody cobblestones & their unanswered cries scaring away bystanders ..
Sudden flames brighten the evening sky & a dark plume of smoke billows up over the northwest quarter!
[20 minutes later]
First responders find numerous stunned guards & the Lord's Manor in flames! They manage to stop the fires from spreading, but the manor is reduced to stone & a charred ruin.
Rumors begin to spread that there were at least six attackers, perhaps as many as two dozen! Dark clothed, hooded and armed with fearsome weapons of many types.
Witnesses claim that huge balls of fire rained down to set the mansion aflame cast by a chanting wizard. Others claim it was from a wand wielded by a small man but still others claim they saw a juvenile red dragon spreading the flames ..
Investigation reveals that two guards have perished from smoke inhalation, but otherwise the damages are mostly bruises, broken bones and the complete devastation of the Lord's Manor.
[over the course of the evening]
Adventurers and liasons of the city are seen disgorging from the gates of the city in all directions, looking about for any trace of the ones responsible ..

A man in black visits the Great Hall of Valkur's Roar very late in the evening. He is cloaked and hooded. He appears very well-armed. He wears a black veil in his hood that conceals his face. Within the Great Hall, the man inquires as to the whereabouts of High Inquisitor Vera Gudwerks.
After leaving the Great Hall, the man is intermittently observed in and around the debris site of the lord's manor. In spite of the black veil over his face, and the lack of a light source, the man appears to be inspecting the bombed location. He shows a gold Valkur's Roar Reserves badge when guards have occasion to approach him. He is not hostile to the guards, and asks the guards what they saw when the lord's manor was attacked.
"Any a ya guarts on duty keened wha' 'appent 'ere? Ain' heard no 'ficial summons fer th' Reserves bu' I reckin 'is 'ere's call 'nough fer lookin' w'ou' an invitashin."
