Maethor's life began as an orphan when he was left on the doorstep of Morningmist Hall, Marsember's resident temple of Lathander, as little more than a baby.
Immediately taken under the wing of High Morninglord Chansobal Dreen and the resident clergy and indoctrinated into the teachings of the Morninglord.
Lathander's teaching came easy to Maethor and a desire to bring Lathanders light to the more shadow filled corners of Faerun. Hence, Maethor gravitated towards the path of a Paladin as a boy and on his 18th Birthday he was formerly indoctrinated into the order of the Aster, recognized faerun wide as Lathanders church army.
OOC - A little info about the order from City of Splendors: Waterdeep.
The order of the Aster serves as the church army of the faithful of Lathander. In alliance with devotees of the moonmaiden and other like minded deities, members of the order, sometimes known as Soldiers of Light, continue their eternal battle with the forces of darkness and destruction, specifically the followers of bane, Shar and Talos.
Each member of the order of the Aster is assigned to a company of the morninglords church army. Each company is housed in one of a dozen or so church sponsored abbeys scattered across western and central faerun. Companies are dispatched by the commanding abbot to battle enemies of the faith, usually in response to an entreaty from a high ranking cleric of the Morninglord (such as the case with Dreens on going battle against the smugglers and pirates of the pirate isles). Between tours of service, members of the order are frequently given leave to pursue their own goals, Most spend their time depending individual temples, but some serve the faith by becoming adventurers (as Methor has done as well).
Associated Classes: Cleric, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger
Requirments: You must adhere to the tenets of Lathanders faith and obey your superiors in the order
Special: Admittance to the order of the aster usually requires demonsttable understanding of the churchs teachings (4 ranks in knowledge [religion]) and fighting skills (base attack bonus of at least +3), as well as a vow of devotion to the morninglord.
(Just would like to point out that belonging to the order provides no bonuses as such (i.e its not part of any prestige class and all that) and it only serves to flesh out the character and give him direction as well as give the DM's something to work with when it comes to his wandering around and the DM's scratching their head thinking ' how do I get this guy in on this?')
Soon after Maethor joined a newly consecrated ship and as is the custom of Morningmist hall and effectively on the order of Chansobal Dreen due to his own standing within the order of the Aster, took to the dragon mere out of Marsember to do battle with the smugglers and pirates that are common off the coast of Cormyr and the Dragoncoast.
A little over a ten day later, this is where the rest of his story begins....In a small town not so far from Cormyr's border...
