Nania Aloufin
Nania was born an only child in the Dalelands. Her mother, a moon-elf, was a wizard specializing in the school of divination. Her father was also a moon-elf, hailing from Deepingdale. He was a bladesinger as well as a scout for the Riders of Mistledale. Notably, he joined the crusade of King Azoun IV to defeat the horse barbarians in 1360 DR.
The Aloufins lived in a small dwelling outside of Bristar in Deepingdale. Nania has always been a bit of a recluse and spent most of her time at home with her mother. Her mother was an herbalist and a wizard who taught Nania the ways of the forest and the basics of the Art. She also taught her about the Seldarine, elvish history, and the Queen of Arvandor. She loved her mother very much, but she rarely ever saw her father.
Every time her father came home, she was ecstatic to hear about all of his stories and his grand adventures. Her favorite story was of her father’s recent (for an elf) trip to the east to suppress the Tuigan horde, the comrades in arms that he met, especially the story of the warriors from Cormyr who saved his life. He always spoke highly of these Cormyrian soldiers. Nania always hung on every word.
It was by this adventure her father brought home a trophy: a single edged-great sword, fashioned in the eastern style of blades. The sword itself was as long as Nania was tall.
Nania, would frequently take the sword and practice with it, despite her parent’s protests, especially her mother, who wanted her to use the traditional elven weapons. Nania wanted to become a bladesinger, not unlike her father. She would go out into the forests of Deepingdale and spend days out in the wilderness by herself.
Last winter Nania’s father sent a letter to their home: Cormyr was attacked by a host of goblins and orcs and he is departing for Cormyr to help his ‘brothers-in-arms’. He indicated that if they needed to contact him, any letters should be sent to Isinhold at the Regal Griffon Inn.
She immediately packed up her things, intent on meeting her father in Cormyr. She grabbed her leather breeches and the eastern sword. Her mother did not want her daughter to leave, but knew she had spent too much time living a sheltered life. She gave her only daughter three gifts… a composite long bow, which belonged to Nania’s grandfather. A traveling spellbook, so she could study them and become a bladesinger, just like her father. And finally, she could not let her daughter go alone. She gave her an egg. Nania looked at the egg curiously. Her mother went on to explain that once she tapped into the weave, awaking her abilities, the egg would hatch and she would have to take care of the creature that resided there.
Nania wrapped the egg very carefully and put it in her pack. She said her goodbye, hugging her mother tightly and headed out the door…
