Chapter 1 Ends beginning
A young girl wrapped in alabaster finery gazes upon the slowly shrinking city. The sandy dry shores of Calimport dotted with lights and the movement of shadowy figures fades from her view. She expels a sigh of relief as a cool desert nights wind savors her silky fair hair in its grasp. Her blue eyes scan with a shimmer of light across the busy deck full of crewmen going about their duties.
"Here lassie" a bundle of cloth lands at her feet "Get outa that shine and into sometha you can make yourself useful, you'll be helpin tha cook. Oh an we'll be needin a bit of elagance to pay for ya transport." The girl glares at the crewmen. "The dress and ye jewels I be meaning!" barks the seadog "Wit tha tales being spun about ye nary man on tha ship's gona wanna peek at ye hide for tha fear he'll be put through evey sorta death there is." The crewman offers a slight grin to the girl with a chuckle. "Tha as fine as ya hide may be some of the lads abord might be willin to risk it." The girl frowns darkly and gathers up here things headding below deck.
Surrounded with the bleak dank of the ships hold she changes quickly into her raggy old crew's cloth then strikes up a candle lighting a sense she's being watched. Her eyes shift about her surrounds but see nothing. "Who's there?" she speaks in a short tone. Her view slowly continues to scan the ships hold but nothing is there. A flicker in the dark and the ships hull groans followed by silence. Suddenly a sharp pain of wax on her candle hand frees the light from her hand. The the candle hits the wooden floor and the world around the girl seems to ripple and bend.
Twisted faces silently moan in agony forming on the hold's walls before receding back. Their eyes cry red tears of pain. Each drop drips into a strange symbol as they start to line up into a script mad and twisted. The faces of the walls seem to cry enough strange symbols to fill a book and soon the whole ships hold is covered in moving letters and strange diagrams none making sense to the girl. She drops to her knees and bury's her face in her hands. But the words are still there trapped behind her eyelids. The letters drip together in her mind to form a pair of dark red eyes that stare back at her.
"Rift." its sinister voice calls her from somewhere outside her view.
Her eyes dart about even more frantic at the voice looking for a source.
In a hurried spout the voice calls "He's waiting for you, its waiting for you, in the darkness. Darkness waits- ..."
Before the voice can finish she's bolted form the hold as fast as her feet can carry her form.
"Ugh" the voice expels a sigh.
