Age: 106
Apparent Age: 25-30
Nicknames: Caerith, Whitestar, The Scholar
Caerith’wyn Brighstar was born to a noble house that once held much power in the elven court--and beyond. His parents, Astrophel and Luminari Brightstar departed their ancestral homeland, the forest kingdom of Cormanthyr, during the retreat when Caerith’wyn was still young (by elven standards). Given his age, Caerith’wyn did not understand the need for the retreat, and so it was that he grew to resent it. Though he applied himself to his arcane studies under the great elven Wizard Alowyth Wysterian—one of the few elves who remembers the secrets of elven high magic—Caerith’wyn often let his mind wander to half-remembered visions of green groves and flowing rivers of his ancestral home.
Though the enchanted isle of Evermeet held much that fascinated the inquisitive and scholarly young elf, he always remembered his home ground, like a snatch of half-heard, ghostly music that he could never quite remember, nor wholly forget.
Now, a third of a century later, Caerith’wyn and his lifelong companion, Isaedriel Dawnbringer, have returned to Cormanthyr—specifically Greatgaunt—to see what remains of their people’s past. Though the elders of Evermeet warned him time and again that such a thing was impossible, Caerith’wyn also secretly hopes to see Cormanthyr restored to its former glory, firmly believing that the place rightfully belongs to the Tel-quessir—and no one else.
Despite his somewhat intolerant view of half-orcs, dragonkin, and even humans, Caerith’wyn’s icy exterior belies his kindly and good-hearted nature. He is likely to launch a diatribe about the invaders of his “rightful homeland,” and then treat a human or h’orc with surprising kindness. For though some anger and a deep sense of loss has darkened this fair elf’s heart, a great and abiding light still shines within.
Since coming to Greatgaunt (which he stubbornly insists on calling by its “true name”---Isinhold) Caerith’wyn’s initial hard edge of resolve to reclaim the ancient elven fortress has softened somewhat, as humans, halflings, and even a dragon-blooded have shown him surprising kindness and even friendship.
