I'm extremely drawn to the Shadowdancer class, but there's some things I'm not sure of.
I found a link to a thread giving tips how to RP the class, and saw that people recommended trying to keep the fact that they're a Shadowdancer a secret.
Honestly, this had occurred to me previously, but when I thought about how many of them make a living by using their art in performing, it seems kind of ridiculous to really be trying to keep it a secret. A true master of deception, a ninja, completely blends into the environment, taking on the garb of just another farmer or some countless boring profession.
I suppose it's completely possible for some Shadowdancers to do this as well, but like I said, they're very well-known for using their abilities to entertain, thus revealing themselves. This would reallllly hinder any secretive operations, as their presence in a town/city would be obvious, and they'd be easy to track down.
What occurred to me recently, is that maybe these shadowdancers embrace 'mystique', instead of anonymity. I myself feel the pleasure in standing out in conspicuous black garb, drawing attention to myself, but truly revealing nothing; rather letting people's imaginations run wild. But I don't know, it doesn't seem like there's any real strategic value to this. It's more like an extension of their performance dance, which also doesn't have direct strategic value; it's just an art.
I guess at the end of the day I'm trying to point to two different 'camps' of Shadowdancer that seem to exist: the ones who are as secretive as possible and use their abilities to spy and stuff; and the ones who draw attention to themselves and develop an aura of mystique.
And I guess I'm looking for validation for the latter, as I would take gratification in dressing for the part, and using my abilities alongside fellow adventurers. Does all this seem right to you guys?
