Name: Bink Songsmasher
Race: Half-Orc
Class: Barbarian/Bard
Homeland: The North (Savage Frontier)
I started life as a whelp in the Bloody Fist tribe of orcs in some nameless barren mountains in the north. My mother was taken as a prize of war and was forced into a life of servitude. My father was a warrior of the tribe noted for his ferocity and stupidity, even amongst orcs he was considered stupid. However, being particularly strong and mean his lack of intelligence was not considered much of a drawback with the other orcs.
So from my father I inherited my strength and toughness and was taught to use axe, sword, spear and bow to good effect. From my mother I inherited intelligence, wit, a love of language and a talent for music. You see my mother was a bard and passed her knowledge and talents down to me. This gives me a double perspective on life. While for the most part I prefer human company and civilization, I do understand the orcs and have sympathy for them whilst not necessarily agreeing with them. So anyway about me. At age 16 I left my tribe, I was never really accepted there anyway, although I was tolerated as orcs like music and good stories too. I traveled to my mother’s homeland, taking her with me as my father was long dead by this time. His stupidity finally got the better of him when he taunted an ogre he thought was “tame”. I did say he was stupid even for an orc right? Anyway, we arrived in a small village my mother called home and were allowed to live there for a time. Again though I was never really accepted due to my orc blood, and was only tolerated as my mother was well loved. After a year of learning about human culture and some pretty good songs, I departed. My presence only made things harder for my mother and I yearned to see more than backwards little villages. At my mother’s advice I traveled to Cormyr and have arrived in Isinhold. For a while I shall carry out the ruse of acting the typical stupid half-orc. I will do this for two reasons. A smart half-orc seems to make people very suspicious whilst a typically dumb one is almost ignored and thus able to learn a great deal. Also when I do sing or tell stories and jokes the effect of a ‘stupid’ half-orc singing with talent is quite astonishing and brings in more coin. I have found that half-orcs here are judged not so much by their blood and appearance as by their actions, although they are perhaps watched a little closer than an elf or a dwarf, which I can understand. After all our reputation for ferocity and bad temper is justly earned.
So my goals now are to improve my skills as a bard, learning more songs, stories and getting better at telling jokes. Also learning more about the history of everything, I have a fascination with ancient lore, customs, laws and the ways of different peoples. I must say these humans are a very diverse lot and I think I have a long period of study ahead. I look forward to it.
Bink Songsmasher
P.S. I know to human ears my name is ridiculous, but Bink is a respected orc name and well songsmasher was the last legacy of my father.
