All her life, she looked up to him. He was her hero, her friend, and most importantly her father. Nobody cared for her quite like he did, afterall, they were family. Since she could remember, they always lived in the Evening Shade Inn. A small establishment in the village of Kuldahar. This village was special, for it held a great gift from the Oakfather himself, the large tree which the village was settled around, radiated a warmth and a sanctuary from the frigid cold of the north. Not many people passed the village, except for the odd pilgrim, or druid seeking to honor the great tree, most visitors simply being traders from the Ten towns nearby. Lya and her father had an agreement with the innkeep of the Evening Shade, that they would provide food, in exchange for the hospitality, the inn rarely making use of all the rooms.
It was a quiet, and peaceful life, till Lya's seventeenth birthday. A white haired woman of the name Eve arrived in Kuldahar, and spent a fair amount of time about the Evening Shade Inn aswell. Her extremely flirtacious and innocent attitude quickly won over Lya's hate, and her father's heart. For a long time, her father was without the companionship of a mate, and he was particularily vulnerable to the idea of finding love once more. Lya had known that he was always a lonely and heartbroken man, as he told her stories about her mother, and the love of his life, Cal'onna.
Eve spent a fair amount of time in Kuldahar, and even more time with Lya's father, as she begun to cling to him like a parasite. Growing thin on coin, having spent a lot of it on her rent, the woman was soon to be evicted, though Lya's father would have none of this, and he offered her to live with him, in his room. This upset Lya greatly, but she had not spoke of her feelings just yet, as she felt it was wrong of her to break him up of the love he was hoping for, all these years. A sickening feeling residing in her gut, she truely felt that Eve was no good for him.
Several weeks passed, and Eve started to go hunting with Lya's father, an almost sacred thing that proved that he must have her trust. Of course, Lya felt much differently on the matter. Having the innkeep complain several times to her about Eve's things still occupying her old room, Lya quickly jumped to the idea of moving her things. Perhaps she could learn a little more about her, from the things she had in her room. This was to settle her mind for good, and she decided that she would give her a chance if she didn't find anything strange, though in the back of her mind, she hoped to find something off.
The room was small, clean, and very organized. She found little, but clothes, upon clothes, and even more clothes. Clearing out the open dresser, she sighed, and closed the drawer- finding it not able to close, she investigated, removing the drawer from its slot, she found a small bundle, jammed within the dresser. Looking around herself before quickly taking the bundle and opening it up, her heart beginning to race. Within the bundle, was a pendant, depicting a snowflake, and a grey diamond. This looked familiar to her, but she couldn't quite remember what it was.
After moving all of Eve's things into her father's room, she then had to decide what to do with the pendant. Keeping it for herself, she put it in her drawer, and set out to the local temple of Illmater, the only place about town to have books that may help her find out what the symbol on the pendant meant. Helping herself to study the small collection of a library over several days, it was difficult to not catch the attention and curiousity of the others living in the small village. Though whenever asked of her sudden interest, she simply said she was bored, quickly earning the suspicion of her neighbors. For several days, Eve seemed to notice Lya more, and always gave her a terrible look, when they spoke. It was no secret, Eve knew her pendant was missing, and knew Lya had it in her possession.
Taking some of the books in her room, for a little more privacy, she got to work again. Through the quiet inn, she could hear a conversation downstairs, between Eve and the Innkeep.
"That little thief stole something from my room, I -know- it. Also have you seen what she's been up to lately? I heard that shes been secretly worshipping the Frost maiden. ...tch, the fool!"
The fire inside Lya grew, and she couldn't help but feel infuriated about what was said about her, even though it was half true. Looking back to her book, she slowly flipped its pages to find the Frost Maiden she heard Eve speak of. There was silence downstairs, and the night had begun to fall over the quaint village. With candle light assisting her sight, Lya stared in disbelief as she found the symbol to match that of Aurils. Her mind swam with many thoughts, though she seemed to decide the most important thing at the time was to inform her father of what she found. Flipping the book closed, and holding it under her arm, she slowly got up, collected her set of keys, and moved to her fathers room, fiddling with the keys.
After knocking and having no reply, she began to open the door. "It's me, Lya!"
Quickly pushing the door open, she was greeted by a foul sight, and a terrible smell. Her father sat with his back against the wall, pale as snow, with a line of scarlet over his neck. On the wall behind him, written in blood, was the word: "AWAKENING"
