The elf stands beneath the trees. The dappled sunlight, which has managed to penetrate the thick forest canopy, sparkles from his golden hued, elven, chainmail hauberk. In his left hand, is a composite longbow, a masterwork of the bowyer's craft. Slung across his back is a dark brown leather quiver full of arrows with various colored fletching. The elf's forest-green cloak, billows in the slight breeze. His eyes are a light sky-blue with gold flecks, denoting his Moon-Elf heritage and his hair is a silvery white, worn long and unbound. To your surprise, the elf smiles and motions you to be still and silent. Looking through the trees, you can just see a group of eight heavily armored and armed orcs entering an adjacent clearing about sixty paces away. Accompanying them are two sparsely armored orcs carrying quarter-staves. The raiders appear to be as foul tempered as they are foul smelling. For even at this distance, the wind carries their stench. You observe the elf withdraw a red fletched arrow from his quiver, knock it to his bow and mutter something under his breath which you can’t quite make out. Silently the elf draws back the mighty bow, its limbs slightly creak as they flex. Drawing the arrow to his right ear, the elf takes aim and releases. You can barley make out the arrow streaking towards the raiders and striking a member in the middle of the war-band. Quickly drawing a flaming two-handed sword, the elf drops his bow and runs into the fray. With a grace unknown to human-kind, the elf begins a dance of death with the mighty Orcs. His enchanted blade swiftly carves a ring of destruction as the Orcs move to surround him. As suddenly as it began, it is over. The horrendous beasts lay mangled and burning at the elf’s feet. Turning back towards you, the elf lowers his weapon, bows deeply and smiles yet again. “I am Sir Haladir Amastacia, an Elven Knight of Evermeet. Well met Traveler, in this land once known as the “Wolf Woods”.
Later that evening, Your sitting by a small camp fire under a rocky overhang at the edge of the King’s Forest, Haladir is cooking some trail rations and notices the unspoken questions in your gaze. “I see by the look in your eye, that you have questions for me. Hmm.. Well, sit back and I will tell you of myself while our meal cooks.” He takes up a seat opposite you and the flickering light of the fire dances across his sharp elven features. His eyes shine briefly like a cats, reminding you yet again, that this is no human warrior and that he can see you as clearly as you can see in the mid-day sun. “Hmm.. Where to start? I suppose, I will begin with who my people are and where I’m from. As I have already told you my name is Haladir Amastacia, The Amastacia family is a very ancient elven family once from the great forest Cormanthor. When the elves began the retreat to the haven of Evermeet, my family went as well. They relocated from Cormanthor and settled in the Elven Court of Leuthilspar at the mouth of the river Ardulith, which is located on the eastern shore of our island. My father was an Elven Knight as well, Sir Amerigan Amastacia. My mother was Egrainel and she was a Mage of no small repute amongst our people.” For a moment a wistful look crosses the elf’s face and his eyes take a vacant far away look. With a quick shake of his head, he comes back to the moment and continues his story. “My parents were slain in a surprise attack on my homeland, by traitorous Gold Elves and Drow in the year Of The Unstrung Harp, or as you know it, 1371 Dale Reckoning.” Here the pain is evident in the elf’s expression, but he continues his tale. “Many of my people were slain and most of the Knights died defending our shores against the foe. Even young Squires such as myself were called upon to take up the blade and fight. The battles were fierce but ultimately we prevailed. Shortly thereafter, I was Knighted by our Queen Amlauril and sent forth to this land to determine what has become of our ancient holdings. So, there you have it traveler. You know all I have to tell at this point. If you continue to share the road with me, perhaps you will learn more.” As he finishes his tale, he motions for you to get your bowl. “Ah... Dinner is ready”.
