A white-haired halfling woman can be seen making her way from the Temple of the Defenders to the Red Fellowship. Wearing her chainshirt, a heavy adamantine shield bearing the symbol of the True attached to her arm, she shoulders a spear wrapped into a long cloth covered in celestial runes. Carrying herself with the stern demeanor of a warrior, she delivers a letter respectfully before heading back to her own temple.
The letter itself is written in a firm, strong hand:
Frequently, one hears young warriors, barely having learned to wield their blade, ramble about how they’re beyond old fashioned concepts of honour. How their willingness to do anything gives them an advantage over those of us ‘constrained’ by such arbitrary a codex, by something that seems to serve no practical purpose.
But we know better, do we not?
We know that honour in war is not something that the Archons or the like have told us to uphold. All over the world, even the planes, warriors act with honour, are raised to act with honour, and while tis always best when such happens because it’s the morale thing to do, often this has quite different a reason:
It’s smart.
But you understand this.
The Clergy of the Red Knight knows that the Warlord whose troops commit atrocities to their enemies may gain the advantage of inspiring terror – but in turn turns every enemy who hears of his actions into a cornered animal fighting to its death, for the prospect of surrendering and being taken prisoner is not a chance to survive, but merely the path to a slower, more painful death at the hands of the servants of evil.
But there are those who seek power through subterfuge, and who will use this power to corrupt our leaders, guiding down their dark, honourless path were atrocities are committed for their dark mistress, consequences be damned.
And however small, they’ve made progress. Clergy of the Willing Whip is leading sanctioned volunteer militia patrols here in Cormyr. I appeal not only to your morals, though I do hope you share my outrage at the mere thought of such, but to the duty both our churches have to guide soldiers and leaders down the right path.
The Maiden of Pain must be outlawed, less her corrupted influence spreads through our armies, and I call upon the Church of the Red Knight to join my petition to do so.
May the Lady of Strategy and the Triad guide your hand,
Yours faithfully,
Unproven Tasha of Torm
P.S.: Please send your response to the Temple of the Defenders
