US Central Time Zone. Available some week nights with more flexibility on the weekends.
At random and without warning I may spice up an encounter in the path of you or your party by throwing a curve ball, changing things up, and trying to make the encounter more challenging and exciting.
Usually I try to schedule events that may last several hours in advance with players involved. These are usually meant to be single session stories with an established goal in mind - though players involved may not know what the goal is...until it's too late!
I may put on a connected sequence of event sessions in a series. A series will establish an ongoing storyline that will hopefully leave a permanent imprint and help develop characters involved.
Sometimes I'll commit to run a campaign, a large undertaking where I try to up the ante. If you find your way into one of these, play at your own risk! In a dedicated story like this I try to make advancement very challenging and to create situations where characters have to make choices and live with the benefits and consequences of the outcome. Be warned!
In all of the above I want to provide excitement and development for your character.
Please keep in mind that everyone makes mistakes. If things go wrong, please be patient as I try to fix the problem.
Hawk's House Rules
The following are a few standard conventions that I apply to events. Every DM has their signature style and preferences.
Subdual and non-lethal damage: To attempt to subdue or grapple with someone, roll strength. Please don't attack and deal damage when trying to overpower someone without hurting them.
Communication with Animals: Sylvan is the language of magical woodland creatures who can speak, such as dryads and pixies. Druidic is the secret language of druids. There is not a universal language of animals. Most animals do not have a language other than body language, posturing, smells, and sounds (but not words). Some animals have a language, such as whales or dolphins, but they are unique to the species and a person usually doesn't have a chance to pick up their language token.
Summoning Monsters and Creatures: If the creature summoned would be native to Faerun, you've summoned a creature from Faerun. If the creature is planar such as an elementals, fiends, and celestials the caster is bringing a being into his or her presence from another plane. All summoned creatures feel pain and will remember their wounds. Those that are native to the world and slain while summoned are dead. Those called from the planes and slain while summoned are banished from the world with the bitter memory of their defeat and suffering.
Teleport and Mass Teleport: These spells are significant game changers that tip the scales away from the challenges I try to present. As such their use is not allowed.
Custom Druid and Shifter Shape Items: These items are significant game changers that tip the scales away from the challenges I try to present. As such their use is not allowed.
See you in game!
