mm... get collecting and labeling then. Its hard enough drawing them without fitting them into neat categories. I don't even know how to do that.
For one thing, the guys who make the pretty pictures and the guys who crop those pictures and turn them into portrait packs are rarely (if ever) the same.
For two, naming your portraits properly really isn't all that hard, and it goes a little something like this:
po_x_y_[name]_z.tgapo = portrait, as in "Hey, Neverwinter Nights! This is a portrait, so pay attention to any code that follows, okay?"
x = Race. Substitute x with one of the following:
dw = Dwarf
el = Elf
gn = Gnome
ha = Halfling
he = Half-Elf
ho = Half-Orc
hu = Human
y = Sex. Substitute y with one of the following:
m = Male
f = Female
[name] = The name specific to the portrait; this is usually whatever you want to name it, like "WhiteSorceress" or "DwarfWithNunchaku" or whatever.
z = Size. You should make five copies of the portrait, one for each size. Substitute z with one of the following:
h = Huge (256 x 512 pixels. But ideally, the portrait itself is 256 x 400, with a "blank" about 104 pixels deep at the bottom. Some people use the blank to sign their work, but I'm still not completely sure why that blank has to exist.)
l = Large (128 x 256 (the image size) / 128 x 200 (the portrait itself))
m = Medium (64 x 128 / 64 x 100)
s = Small (32 x 64 / 32 x 50)
t = Tiny (16 x 32 / 16 x 25)
So let's say that you take a pic of Chuck Liddell in a "punching you" pose. You go through all the cropping and copying and resizing, and then you might name the files thus in order to ensure that players can only see and select the portrait during character creation if they're creating Human Male characters:
po_hu_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_h.tga
po_hu_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_l.tga
po_hu_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_m.tga
po_hu_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_s.tga
po_hu_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_t.tga
And if you also wanted Chuck's face to be available for dwarves for some reason, you would create a second portrait set (with Rename and Save As) like so:
po_dw_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_h.tga
po_dw_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_l.tga
po_dw_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_m.tga
po_dw_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_s.tga
po_dw_m_ChuckLiddellRulez_t.tga
And be sure that all of your portraits are of the Targa graphics file type (.tga), since that's the only file type that NWN accepts. If your graphics editor doesn't support .tga, you'll just have to find one that does. Paint Shop Pro 8 pretty much supports every graphics file type in the known universe, so that's my tool of choice.
So anyway, back to more pics of Rico getting drunk and beating things up.
Take it away, Merc!
