OOC: Greeting, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements...
OOC: We are taking on the challenge of bringing Valkur’s Roar back to life and back to the level it was just before the Western Reach Accord. There will be intrigue, espionage, investigation, corruption, and plenty to be manipulated. Me and other DM’s are joining together to try and bring to life a complete cast of nobility, knaves, and notable personalities.
OOC: We are not talking about a place where DM’s dictate what happens but a place where PLAYERS create the schemes, plots and press them forward. So get ready to get your gears turning. These are the first of a series of anoncements we will be making.
IC: *Rumors abound in Valkur's Roar of noble houses packing up their entire estate and leaving the city under the cover of darkness. Other rumors speculate of the nature of new leadership.*
OOC: End public announcement. (This was stated in game as well as here.)

OOC: Greeting, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements...

Calling all opportunist, tyrants, information mongers, investigators, heroes, and vigilantes, now is the time for you to shape the world you live in. The Barony of Valkur's Roar will not be a single fixed set of events but rather it is meant to be an environment of opportunity for your grand schemes to progress. In the coming days you will hear several announcements like this one about it. As always you can find out more on the forums.
IC: *Rumors are spread of about the city preparing for some sort of big event but everyone is very hush hush about it.*

OOC: Greeting, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements...
OOC: The Barony of Valkur's Roar plot is meant to create a place where you can participate in Player verses Player ROLE PLAY. While there might be PVP Combat we will keep it limited. Think of this as a chess game of manipulation, spies and subterfuge. Its not whoever has the highest level or best sword wins. Information is the key to success.
OOC: If you do not want to be involved in that type of conflict or role play then please feel free to not participate. While you character levels will matter for something, almost any character at any level who can role play well can participate and make a difference. As always you can find out more on the forums.
IC: *The rumor mill churns out a curious fact. The title of Baron implies royal blood yet there are no known Obarskyr's alive that could fill the bill. Speculation includes that the long dead bones of Azoun III have been raised to father a whole new line of royal persons along with other more ridiculous things.*

OOC: Greetings, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements...
OOC: The Barony of Valkur's Roar is not a typical hack and slash event. It will be a place where the smallest details hold the key to total success or utter failure and information is the key to success. We suggest you keep good logs and good notes. If you don’t know how to use a log rotator you can find information on that in the forums.
OOC: It only fair to note that bits of information are being released right now and a few PC’s have started collecting this information. Nothing major has been revealed yet and the plot will not kick into full swing until the Baron is presented to the public. In the very near future.
IC: *Rumors spread of several sightings of a Minotaur that has not been attacking on sight.*
OOC: End public announcements.

OOC: Greetings, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements...
OOC: These announcements that have been made both in game and on the forums over several days are meant to inform every player of this plot. This way every player has equal opportunity to be involved as your desires and time permit and achieve success or failure as your role play dictates. If one group manages to take over something or change Valkur’s Roar in a way you do not like. Understand that it is likely to be the result of a lot of player’s hard work and excellent role play.
OOC: If team Evil wins something instead of being angry with them as a player congratulate them on their success as a player and promise them you will kick their butts in the near future with your ROLE PLAY. It is entirely possible in this event to achieve partial control of various elements of Valkur’s Roar only to have another team manage to strip that from you and possibly gain control of it themselves.
IC: *Some people have been complaining about a band of elven marauders in the Mistwoods stealing their belonging.*
OOC: End public announcements.

OOC: Greetings, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements...
OOC: In the Barony of Valkur's Roar the good guys –need- the bad guys to plot and scheme so they have something devious to thwart and that is impossible to do when all the actions of one group can happen at a different time than the actions of another group. A spy can’t spy on others who aren’t playing at the same time they are. Clandestine operations can’t be done against your foes if the foes aren’t logged in when you are.
OOC: For these reasons the Barony of Valkur's Roar will run on a schedule. The schedule also allows players and DM’s to take a break from the story. We do not want these events to monopolize all of your play time. This may require progress to happen a bit more slowly than you would like and sometimes even at a pace that would seem unrealistic to your character. The schedule will have a time window when the VR DM Team is dedicated to advancing the story. This will be called the “Main Events” schedule.
OOC: This also means that there are likely some players who simply will not be able to have a substantial impact on the story because their individual schedule conflicts with the “Main Events” schedule. This is regrettable but unavoidable due to the fact that it is simply impossible for all of the VR DM’s to be online 24/7. The Main Events schedule will be posted on the Forums in the near future.
IC: *A body was found floating the waters of the harbor a few nights ago, The High Inquisitors office proclaims it appears to be an accidently death due to intoxication however it will not confirm or deny anything until it concludes its investigation.*

OOC: Greetings, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements...
OOC: The Barony of Valkur's Roar requires players to drive the story forward and that is difficult to do if the players don’t step up and take substantive roles in story line. It is also difficult to do if you change characters frequently or abandon characters that are a key part of the story. For these reason we would like you to choose a single primary PC to use when interacting with the story line. We don’t care if you create a new one that you use only during these events and we don’t care if you play your character outside of these events.
OOC: All we ask is that you don’t involve multiple characters. We prefer one primary character per player and stick to it. We all get to the point where we lose interest in our character so we urge you to select carefully who you use.
IC: *Word quickly spreads of the time and date of the Baron’s Commendation Ceremoy. Sept 1st approx 8:00 pm central.*

OOC: Greetings, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements...
OOC: The Barony of Valkur's Roar is our way of creating the structure and depth of an entire city where your characters can attempt to do whatever it is that your character wants to attempt. It will be a dangerous place that rewards the clever and well prepared and punishes the foolish. If your characters plan on misbehaving don’t do the crime if your PC can’t do the time.
OOC: Also, divine intervention DM raises will very limited and only likely in cases where something went horribly wrong that is our fault. For example we spawn the 40th level spawn instead of the 4th level one. In most other cases we will work to attempt to create an IC raise if and only if the situation logically demands. It is possible your actions in the plot could result in you having to re-spawn your character. All FRC PVP and Grieving rules still apply.
IC: *Arson in the slums, two different times dead men are found in the water, slain purple dragons, and a noble house robbed. Several unfortunate events have tainted the peace that existed before the news of a new Lord of Valkur's Roar started to spread. The Doomsayers are working over time.*

OOC: Greetings, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements...
OOC: The Barony of Valkur’s Roar will officially kick off Sept 1st with the Commendation Ceremony of the new Lord of Valkur’s Roar and the subsequent exclusive noble’s ball. While some events have begun in and around VR they are mainly to begin to build background and move some of the factions in to proper position or to pull together various ongoing plot lines.
OOC: We have made a lot of effort to get as many players as we reasonably can a decent story line as to why they are attending the ball. Not all players will get to attend as it is an invitation only event. The only way to get an invitation is to Role Play your way in. If you desire to attend the ball but your character have not found a way in yet then please send me a PM with your desire to attend and any ideas you have on how or why your character might attend.
OOC: The Commendation Ceremony is open to the public and anyone who wish may attend. It will be held in Square out of the Greathall. Only the Ball following the ceremony will have limited access.
IC: * Some has begun to suggest that this Baron is a bastard son of Azoun who after being appointed Baron will challenge Alusiar for the Crown of Cormyr! The same people also claim the Baron is a vampire. Then in a few breaths later they claim he is a half-dragon vampire spawn of a romantic interlude between Azoun and a shadow dragon in sexy zombie form. *

OOC: Greetings, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements... The Baron Ceremony had a time and date change to Sunday 4:00 PM Central Standard Time US, Sept 03. We apologise for any that made arrangements to be there and then couldn't for the time change. It was unavoidable. These will be very long and are available on the forums also.
OOC: The Barony of Valkur’s Roar will be player driven; if you want to participate then your character will have to get involved. To get involved with the story your character will need a reason as to why they are involved. We call this a “Hook”. Some ways for characters to hook in where revealed at the Baron's Commendation Ceremony and a few more details where provided to those guests who managed to get themselves inside the ball.
OOC: The Reserve Guard of Valkur’s Roar, (Reserves) is one of the ways you can hook in to the struggles in Vallkur's Roar. While no player can formally join the city guard any player regardless of current guild membership can join the Reserve guard. Besides do you really want to Role Play standing beside a gate for 12 hours shifts? The reserve guard wil be just like the regular guard except they will only have authority when “on duty” which is while they are supported by a DM. The Reserve Guard can be considered the street police of Valkur's Roar.
OOC: The Mage Gaurds of Valkur’s Roar (Reserve Wizards) is another one of the ways you can hook in. Just like above you can get rank and position but won't be execpted to take normal shifts. The Reserves are meant to be additional support for Valkur's Roar above and beyond the normal Guards.
OOC: The Private Inquisitors are another player groups you can join to participate in these events. Good guys and bad guys can join so long as your reputation, RP or actions don’t prohibit you. Also, the “Elven Marauders” are a mechanism to get elven characters hooked in. A similar hook-in is being considered for Dwarves characters if enough interest is expressed by that guild.
OOC: If none of these Hook's work for you there are several darker paths that are available. Typically these are working for being allied with the evil team guilds. If none of these work for your character there are two additional Hooks. There are two open fiefs. One that governs the Mistwoods that would be a good Hookin for Druids, Elves, or Rangers types. The other is the fief of High Priest. Your PC could try to work to influence who the new High Priest will be.
OOC: So Valkur's Roar will be what you make it. How much you enjoy it depends on how much you want to enjoy it. If you want be involved contact me your favorite DM via PM and let us know. No one is under ANY obligation to participate or
OOC: The Barony of Valkur's Roar will put your plots and plans through a DM team evaluation where the obstacles will be identified, the difficulty assessed, and the objectives setup. For example if your fifth level Rogue wants to kidnap one of the nobles and your plan is attack the nobles caravan as he travels from Valkur’s Roar to Suzail and you can be pretty sure his guards will eat you alive.
OOC: If you do foolishness like this without fore thought your character will suffer an untimely death and there will be no DM divine intervention to raise him. If your plan hinges on an NPC failing a bluff check then you will leave it up to the dice. In the DM’s mind this is not you the player against him this is your character against them the NPC’s or other PC’s and we are just keeping the rules.
OOC: Sometimes you have to know when to abort. Unlike most dungeon’s that you crawl when you play against living and dice are involved you can and will lose. DO NOT PARTICIPATE IF YOU CANNOT ACCEPT LOSING. Look at loosing as a set back and get back in the saddle and learn from the loss instead of losing your mind and complaining. Rember its a dice based game.
OOC: End public announcements.

There was a cut and paste error that I did not catch in game. Here is the corrected quote. OOC: So Valkur's Roar will be what you make it. How much you enjoy it depends on how much you want to enjoy it. If you want be involved contact me your favorite DM via PM and let us know. No one is under ANY obligation to participate or ... get involved.

OOC: Greetings, FRC, Please stand by for public announcements... The Events in Valkur's Roar are heating up, division has set in. Please try to understand that this division is by DM design in order to drive the plots that have been developing there for years. Some of you are going to get frustrated, angry and maybe even emotional.
OOC: Please understand that when others are angry with you, it is likely to be an IC anger and not an OOC anger. The last time things began to get this tense is fondly remembered by many as some of the best situations to role play and at the same time remembered as a period of great turmoil with many players upset. It ended up with a few very upset players basically shutting down the events by making it intolerable for anyone to participate and enjoy it.
OOC: We feel like we can manage this process -this- time because we as a community have come to trust our players. To trust they will show each other respect as players while their characters are at odds with each other. You can never go wrong having your character behave as your character would. Be true to the Character concepts you have built. I ask all of you one simple favor. If you feel things making you angry as a player and if you feel like you are no longer having fun. Take a break. Take a moment to think and relax.
OOC: If you have a heated argument with another PC be sure to send a tell OOC to let them know this conflict is IC not OOC. I remember one of my best moments in FRC was a heated fight with another Character in which both PC's were hashing it out. Behind the scene's the other player sent me a tell saying. Man that was a great argument and my PC is so pissed at yours!! Thanks for being the guy that drives my guy insane, I really enjoyed it.
OOC: Remember for our adventures a life without a little conflict is boring!
