Amen Dobian....however if permadeath is enforced for crimes, it should be fairly distributed risk. Or, how about another idea... this one is better than perma death. How about the offending character be taken to a criminal vault? Like take the character out of the players vault... The DM crew could set a time limit.... It is plainly obvious some people will not RP the reprecussions. If a seperate File for say, criminals and convicted file was created, and the character was taken away for a time determined by the DM team, then, if some group of people wished to resurrect that character they could submit an application to the DMs to attempt it.
Also, I think, the discussion of playing evil, be it stupid, meglomaniacish, simple hit and run assassin type, or your just rude and crude. I do think that on the flip side of things, if Good guys banded together and used the laws of the land and followed say Hoar or Tyr, that not only would the bad guys be making a topic of hey there being to ruff, but alot of others would be as well. I have advocated on a few other topics to allow the RCMH to have some arresting powers, something to show that the authorities of the land have trust in their services. My evil guy has been out with alot of the purples, and none know him for what he is, but one or two might suspect. He does this for RP reasons I wont discuss openly here. However, The purples could if they had the authority rip apart just about all the evils on the server. The problem is that then, what would happen? Yes, the purples could cleanse the place....however, if there isnt some sort of a way to show the effort like perma death, a DM sequestering of said evil characters then the RP is all for naught. I for one am one of those that plays an evil guy, and in the end I want to be so evil that he has to be dealt with, and when the RP comes and the PVP begins.... as of that moment, if my character dies in battle... and there is absolutely no hope of him being brought back... well thats the end of his tale, and the good guys get to triumph.
I played on a server that had perma death, your companions could pick it up and carry it. I think that would be more fun, as the good guys would have a chance to chart off your body and dispose of it. Also on this server, if you died in PVE, you could respawn... however if you died as a cause of PVP, you could not, only a raise or a resurrection works. That could also make for fun RP. There could be a vault of criminals, and guards placed and whatnot.... the crypts of the criminals or something, the companions of the dead bad guy could fight their way through to get to the body... also another option.
