Violet a daughter to the local mortician. Her childhood was one of little time with her father and her mother did her best to keep Violet occupied. her mother took her to the local bizarre In Thay where bobbles, trinkets and some of the best items in the land could be sought. Looking over the items few drew her fancy but the gypsies always had something of rarity. The gypsies were outcasts among the merchants there items rare but stolen or meager at best, tales of rarity were more like stories to raise prices of the items then anything else.Today was no exception. The old lady produced a smoke filled orb that began to form a shadowy face, a scowl at that. Violet thought perhaps it was magic and wanted it even more, pulling a few coins and two rings she had gotten from parlor room of her fathers former guests. The gypsy was expecting little for the orb but this would be nicely. The deal was struck and Violet placed it in the leather pouch for safe keeping.
Was time to head home there was choirs still to do and father was expecting large work load with the near by slaying of group adventurers business was abundant that night. The hours grew late as her and her father worked well into the night. He was worn and still one left to prepare for the next days cremation. Father told her she can wait till tomorrow but Violet was willing to finish up and let Father have some peace with mother. Violet found the priestess laying on the slab a bit away from the others, she was clearly there leader or at least looked rich enough to be the leader. She gathered her religious garb and trinkets and placed them one by one in the chests for resale at the thay bizarre. Some of them were impressive and fetch a great price among the clergy of Thay. She was startled to turn as the lantern flickered to see shadowy shape over the priestess. The creature was looming more so then mourning perhaps it was offering final rites of its own. Violet's eyes widen in fear and then amazement. The shadow seemed uncaring of Violet's presence until it turned with somber look. The shadow began to speak,"She was ruthless yet well understanding of the times to come, i served her loyally and faithfully for many years and taught her the secrets of the shadow lords this coupled with her blessings few could stop her will." Violet gulped this creature was evil it had hate among his red eyes, he was undoubtedly not going to let her leave. she slipped her hand backward toward anything on the counter sharp in case she needed protection. The gaze of the creature was hypnotic with the flickering of the lantern almost as if the darkness was his band and he was at the front keeping perfect rhythm. The shadow spoke" the priestess will not be burned like a commoner she was more then this town itself. She is mine to deliver to the high priest, you are just how can i say a problem that needs a solution one that is not good for you!" Violet screamed loudly and drew the knife from her hand and swung wildly at little more then air. Sounds of moaning could be heard from the darkness and occasional chittering. Violet had no doubt this creature was beyond her but she had to try something anything. She thought running is always the best and bolted toward the door. The creature's claws swiped and she could feel them dig in hard against her skin, she was struck and the claws had forced her legs to buckle her strength had left her what little she had. Her body tumbling to the floor with knife leaping from her hand and sliding much much to far to retrieve. She scrambled to check her pouch for anything that could be used as weapon. her hand grasped a round sphere as the leather pouch pulled from the bag. She could use it to bluntly strike the creature. She moved it into the path of the creatures red eyes. The creature stopped a moment and stared slightly as if calmed by the smoke swirling inside. The sphere was the priestess's lost in the fight, it was the keep sake of the shadow the thing that bound him to her. This was his weakness and he could not harm the bearer. The shadow squealed as it reared backward. This was not the way to do things shown to the human meant death for her that was the way it was to be, death or punishment at the hands of the shadow lords. Violet pushed herself up, clutching sphere tightly now "creature you belong to me!" "move into the light so i can see you proper like." The shadow did as commanded as it began to weaken itself and chitter in pain. She did not know what was happening. She shut the flood on the lantern to half and let darkness consume the room again. The shadow grew in stature again and began to speak."the shadows embrace us offer safety and warmth among the humans, there is power in the shadows great power." Violet knew the shadow had meaning in his words and pushed beyond her fear and moved into the shadows embrace. "You shall one day replace this priestess take her role among the elders, take up the cause among our people."
Slowly they made there way through streets with ease in the shadows were few looked long enough to see even a trace. Shortly they were on the main road out of that small town and heading toward the largest temple in Thay itself.....
