Those passing through Shallybrook on the twenty-third of Mirtul, in the Year of Lightening Storms, will note that the town declares a day of mourning.
Saddened hinfolk speak of a terrible massacre that took place two days prior, on Mirtul the twenty-first. In time, these tales pass through the taverns and markets of greater Cormyr.
Well past dusk, a tribe of ogres assaulted the town's main gate, breaking through and crushing the valiant guardsmen. Overrunning the initial resistance, the ogres rushed into the town and slaughtered all that they could see. No mercy was shown, whether to man or woman, elder or child, in the massacre.
Not even the sacred halls of Shallybrook's shrine were respected, as attackers violated the holy ground and murdered the holy folk serving therein. A large elemental creature was seen rising up from the earth and challenging the attackers.
Shallybrook watchmen and valorus citizens rallied again and again against the attackers without success until the defense was bolstered by the faithful of the Lady of Mysteries. Together the hinfolk and the Mystrans broke the assault and brought vengeance upon the ogres, killing each brute found within the town's walls.
The surviving hin and the faithful of Mystra looked to the fallen, dying, and wounded. Many hin were brought back from the brink of death by the fervant prayers and skilled hands of the Mystrans, later joined by the holy ones of the hinfolk.
The survivors and the Mystrans together report seeing the mark of The Destroyer among the attackers. They also note that not all who partook in the assault were ogre, though only ogre bodies were found in the aftermath.
Across Cormyr in many taverns, angry oaths are sworn to the gods Tyr and Hoar against those who would be so cowardly as to assault a hin village.
As Cormyr looks on, Shallybrook mourns.
