Limping Lucy (A Summary)
“It is worth the wounds.”
Physical Description:
The most noticeable feature about this woman is her awkward gait: she walks with an obvious limp, favoring her right leg and often carrying a walking stick. She is of moderate height with shoulder-length brown hair and tawny skin, a few freckles decorating her cheeks. Her eyes are a warm brown, and she often greets strangers and friends alike with an amiable smile. She seems to possess a quiet calm and confidence.
Race: Damaran
Height: 5’6” (68 cm)
Weight: 135 lbs (61 kg)
Starting Age: 22 years
Biographical Summary:
“Limping” Lucy is a member of the Disciples of St. Sollars the Twice-Martyred, whose monastery, the Monastery of the Yellow Rose, is in the Earthspur Mountains, near the Glacier of the White Worm. She was born in Bloodstone Village, Damara, on the 5th of Kythorn in 1352 to a simple family of miners.
When Lucy was but five years old (1357), the armies of the Witch-King occupied the Bloodstone Pass, and her parents numbered among the many locals massacred by the invading forces. The young girl’s left femur bone was fractured and displaced under the cruel heel of a soldier’s boot. She managed to survive and was taken in, like many other orphans, by the local temple of Ilmater. Her injury had been too long untreated by the time she’d come into the priests’ care, and there was little they could do to mend the bone.
Like many other Damarans, Lucy looked to Ilmater’s teachings and the legends of St. Sollars to comfort her and grew to live with her emotional and physical wounds. In her teenage years, she became a novice member of the Monastery of the Yellow Rose, and, in the eagerness of her youth, has left the abbey and come to Cormyr in hopes of spreading the teachings of Ilmater and aiding others in any way she can.
“Vow of Simplicity”:
Lucy has adopted a vow for herself, similar to the traditional Vow of Poverty that some Ilmateri clergy take, that she has dubbed the “Vow of Simplicity.” Some of the conditions of this vow are as follows:
• Lucy disdains any material extravagance and denies herself “extravagant” comforts (like fine foods, clothes, and inn rooms).
• Only drinks water (with the exception of the blueberry wine created at the Abbey of the Yellow Rose) and eats the simplest of foods.
• Does not protect herself from the elements, instead enduring heat, cold, rain, etc.
Goals:
Lucy possesses her own interpretation of the doctrine of Ilmater (and St. Sollars). Like other sects of Ilmateri faith, she focuses on the ideals of perseverance and endurance and practices a form of material self-denial. However, she emphasizes first and foremost the ideal of comfort and aims to offer whatever comfort she may to others, even if it is something as simple as a friendly smile.
