Well for the following: Telk’s reasons. 1. The fame.
2. The fortune.
3. The chance to see interesting times.
4. The chance to make a difference.
5. Chicks dig scars.
Rite.
PS. Might not be in that order.

Janus adventures to learn more about people and the world.
Being a druid can isolate you a great deal from society. But, it is important to 'know thyself' in a manner of speaking. For that reason, Janus spends a lot of his time among 'city-folk' in order to better understand their ways, and therefore better understand why he has sworn to preserve the balance of nature.
However, Janus has made quite a few friends since coming to Greatgaunt. So, now he often accompanies them simply out of a sense of loyalty to them.
Also, whenever he hears of a group preparing to go out and put a stop to undead, lycanthropes, aberrations, outsiders, or other general warping of the balance, he tries to get into those groups as his druidic oath requires him to do so.
And also for profit, because he has learned that in order to interact with society you need lots of money.

In order, Daeun adventures:
- to meet new people and learn new things. - to help people. - to improve himself to better do the two above. - because it's one of the very few occupations suited to his skill set. - because he doesn't have the good sense to do something safer.

Garum Glandash adventures/adventured for a few things.
Originally, he did it for wealth. After Vrulo Myskada and my character met, he did it to be the best. After he fell in love, he did it to protect the ones he cares about. When his love fell apart, he did it out of anger and hate. During the Dracorage he did it to protect Cormyr. Now? He does it to further his goal which he shares with Mithika.
Kalak Glandash adventures for different reasons.
He adventures for wealth. He adventures for power. He adventures for vengeance.
Gerard Rakurno adventures out of his sense of Duty. As a Watcher, it is his task to protect the people of Faerun. His reasons to come to Cormyr are embedded in the politics of Athkatla, and the ruthlessness of the Cowled Wizards therein.
Those uh... are the three big ones.

All of my PCs adventure for pretty much the same reason. Staying in any town long enough will simply drive you nuts here (Any Pw for that matter)

Entori Be'te'wa
why does he adventure?
Entori adventures to seek out and stop things threatening his home, his elven way of life, or something along those lines.
he does not adventure for the money (or i try to have him not to)
Obviously his magic is an art, or so he tries to make it so, so anything in the further of his study of magic he will adventure.
He will also adventure to learn things that have been forgottened because as a follower of labelas, he intends to record and perserve lost history. Beyond that He will adventure to teach.
his morals are defined and fairly high, he won't adventure to those he does not know, without someone who can vouche for them. He'll also in some cases travel wtih those he doesn't know for the sake of learning their ways, or when the opprotunity arises.
Time is fickle like that.
though this has changed based on nature and urgency of the situation.
At one time he adventured pretty much every weekend RL to defend cormyr.
I find that developing these reasons are really hard, and especially with coin, if a goal is required in a new adventurer the only way to aquire coin is by adventuring/smithing/merchanting.
This is why I will like NWN2 much more, one can craft so much more, and there are soo many more spells to learn that a wizards search for magic, will be less limited by mechanics, and crafting will go a long way.

Elvalith: - to seek out new life forms, new wilderness, and to boldly go where no druid has gone before
- self-improvement and training to become better so to better accomplish the above
- to help out friends
- to forge new alliances
- occasional temporary goals that crop up from RP, ie. presently she's on a pilgrimage to various religious sites around Cormyr
Karise: to gain capital for her business Barbia: it's all she knows how to do Finela: for pay Mania: for self-improvement and the challenge My other alts I don't really consider to be adventurers. For example, Selee's mostly for comic relief and generally doesn't choose to go out adventuring, but she can get dragged along on an adventure if a cute guy asks her along or with the promise of pretty treasures.

Meroppi awoke in a strange land one day with no memory of travel His best guess was his elder brother's unwieldy magic may have sent him here
Meroppi now adventures to better himself honing his own skills and gathering gold, fore one day he wishes to return to his homeland and discover the true nature of his arrival (I hang out a bit in a few towns but usually head out to adventure due to lack of RP in town)

Mithika
~ For her faith, she believes very strongly in her 'friendship' with Tymora, and honors it by honoring 'the road', always taking to it when it comes to her. She doesn't make adventures mind you, she firmly believes she's meant to 'tumble along', meaning that Tymora will present her with the road via opportunities given by others. Therefor, she rarely refuses to go when she's invited, as to deny adventure is to deny the will of Tymora.
~ For her friends, she cares greatly for her companions, and leaving them alone without her superb luck would be terrible.
~ To explore and enjoy. Mith loves seeing new places and things.
~ To further her goal with Garum.

For Kiki, she adventures to help, and protect. She doesn't do the whole "I'm getting anxious, let's go find some trouble" thing. She doesn't necessarily travel for fortune, but she does travel for pretty gems, so she can add it to her gem collection. She does travel for gold though when she gets poor and needs to pay for her caravan tickets. Fame and scars isn't something Kiki cares for. Kiki occasionally travels for self discovery, but that doesn't happen often because Kiki's development is mostly influenced by social situations.

Thril's reasons for adventuring have evolved over his time on the server - very slowly. However, a deep-seated motivation of his has always been a desire to protect the elvish people - even though the reason for that desire has slowly changed and grown. In any case here is a chronological list of Thril's motivations for "adventuring": 1. Nothing else to live for or by - his blades and his art the only things he has left so he seeks to test himself constantly so that his abilities will grow stronger and he can protect his people from a distance. 2. A new heart is found and an old one thought dead slowly gasps back to life. He draws nearer the people he would give his life for but dares not spend his life with. 3. Faith is awakened as new trials are encountered. A challenge of a different sort - face your past and join your people. He adventures to prove himself to those who ask "Are you worthy?" and to answer the question within himself. 4. A blessing once lost now returns, hope awakens and the past looses its grip on Thril. Adventures become less frequent and much time is spent on internal battles. 5. Not The People. New challenges arise as relations between elves and non-elves are strained. Adventures take place with N'Tel'Quess as an act of diplomacy - to show the humans that elves can be trusted and to extend an olive branch for the sake of peace for all. 6. Sinner. A brand he's worn for so long and at last shrugged off now returned by one whose might cannot be questioned. Prove yourself to your god, wayward child. Each battle a lesson as he claws towards true Atonement. Who knows what will be his motivation next?

A regenerating, flaming chicken wing wasn't enough!? That was an awesome find though. That entire group got a unique kitchen-item. Meatball, Beans the chicken wing and an everful ale mug. the funniest has to be the exploding meatball that regenerates. "There are many unusual items in the game. This is one of them."

Nadie started adventuring because she was bored. This led her to meeting many new people and making many friends. Once she had her friends she needed to keep them safe and the best way to do that is to improve oneself in any way possible. To become stronger means to be able to better protect those she cares for and her nation therefore she adventures to protect those she considers friends and to eliminate threats to the Cormyrean people.

Seamus started to adventure to gain the power to avenge his mother's murder. He needed gold and power and didn't really care how he got it, because without them he had no chance to take down a noble house of Luskan.
That Changed when he met a Paladin, who became his friend and gradually showed him that their was something to be desired in helping people. So he adventured to help the paladin right wrongs, but it was really more for the friendship then to do any good.
Then he met and and helped form the Silver Lions adventuring group. Adventuring with them because he felt like he had a place there, this is when he began to put his friends above himself in his decision making, and his lust for revenge and power started to subside.
As the silver lions broke apart, he adventured to find a family he could be part of, a place to call home. This is what eventually led him to join the Royal Corp. His motivations to join being as much about a place to feel welcome, as any desire to help Cormyr and it's people.
In the Corp, Seamus adventured to being with because it was his job, and the people he was friends with and loved felt the need to right the wrongs they saw in Cormyr. Over time he gradually came to take their goal and make it his own, feeling a strong need to help the people of Cormyr.
Seamus no longer needs coin, and has lost his desire for revenge. He adventurers to help the people of Cormyr, but is beginning to feel the Corp and the Crown handcuff him more in the task than help him, only Darina's strong belief in the Corp keeps him there now. Some of him still wants to help, so he fights, but more and more Seamus is now adventuring to save a nest egg for his retirement to Baldurs Gate and the start of a family with Darina.
My other characters have motivations, but I have so many I'll just stick with providing a glimpse of the motivations for my main character.

Tarithel doesn't adventure as such, at all. She just ran away from home (like a spoiled ... oh I need to watch what I'll say again ;-) ). She'll venture into some danger at times either because people she listens to advise she needs some target practise or casting practise under adverse conditions, or maybe if she need to collect some money to pay for a journey or her tuition fees. Sometimes she'll just go to a dungeon to set something on fire for a bit of relief from her inner turmoils ;-)

Duk: -survival: Staying around people constantly plotting his death for little to no reason is tedious at best for him. He prefers the wilds, he grew up in them after all. Also, his private grudge with a god of the wilds has ended. This may or may not lead to a realignment with certain deities of nature.
-money: He likes it. It's useful and makes sure goal number one is easier. Also, shinies keep the wife happy. And him, too. Mmm, money...
-supremacy: Duk used to pride himself in that he could kill anything with minimal, if any, losses. Age has taken this from him; he wants it back.
Bodo:
-help people! -find new amazing things! -Make them better with gnomish works!
Tao:
-Testing her strength against new foes is an important part of her psychology.
-She's curious about the west. Travelling with foreign dogs leads her to learn more about them and her cultures.
-She hopes to find more educational pictures of Kiki somewhere.

Radu sought wealth and power to exact vengeance. then that took a back-seat to living in the present and protecting friends and loved ones. now loved ones are gone, most friends are gone, and those that aren't have proven they can take care of themselves. now, he risks his life to feel alive.
Raphe seeks his patron's shrine, and to protect and keep company with his girl and her dog. they are currently on pilgrimage to thank and ask favor of many of the gods of good and/or nature to bless their life together.
a host of less-developed alts seek anything from the usual wealth and power to the equally typical "to protect and serve the people of Cormyr," while one seeks the Truth (or as much of it as he can find and assimilate), and another literally just wants a full (very, very full) stomach at all times, and needs the cash as a means to that end.

Well, my chars have had several reasons to adventure. Crom thought, at least when he came to Cormyr first, he had to prove himself. Nowadays, he still adventures simply because fighting is the only thing he knows and to do good. If someone asks him for his help he wouldn't refuse.
Horus, however, adventures to make coin so he can pay for Claire's expensive taste.

Zaebros adventured for the distraction. There was a lot of things he did not want to think about, and throwing himself into danger was a very good way to get on different thoughts. Brannon adventures mostly because he's a spiteful bastard who wants em monsters out of his Cormyr. Also, to fullfill his duties as a priest and to get funds for his arcane studies. And Jared ... adventures because he's crazy.
