I've always enjoyed comic book heroes but Superman never interested me. The primary reason is that he is too perfect for me. He is stronger and faster then everyone else and nearly indestructible. How could he fail? Where was the challenge? (I'm not really trying to start a flame war with Superman fans. ) Instead, I've always preferred heroes that were flawed and vulnerable in some way. I enjoyed Batman and the X-Men much more. So I thought I would ask, "How is your PC flawed?" Flaws could be character traits, fears and phobias, codes of conduct, etc.

Elvalith has a fear of bugbears. Her animal companion is afraid of spiders. Elvalith's also torn between the elven heritage she lost by being raised as a druid of Silvanus and her loyalty to him. She's especially concerned with the afterlife and if she will ever get to meet her elven family.
Karise is a bit of a coward. She just wants to start a business and is quite attached to her personal safety. As a result, she doesn't often adventure but mostly sits around waiting for customers.
Selee, my favorite alt, is silly stupid. She needs to believe she's smart, so she claims to be a "wizzy," although it's obvious to real wizards that she's not. She's very shallow and concerned with appearances, so much so that she wants an ioun stone merely because it's pretty and doesn't really care about any of its magical properties. She's also distracted by bright shiny objects.
I also have a couple alts so flawed they can't get out of the Border Outpost. I have a character with min intelligence who won't speak out loud for fear of showing her stupidity (and thus won't even give her name to the registration guy). I have another character that was raised by wolves and thus doesn't even understand common tongue.
Others alts are more functional but still flawed. My bard is a total coward too and has never been in combat. My monk believes she fights better the less clothes she wears, and she tries to own a minimum of material possessions (and may thus be unprepared for certain situations). My paladin swears a lot. My ranger talks to herself; I'm thinking of even giving her imaginary friends.

Naralia started the game not being able to speak over a whisper and she was burnt by sun shine. She has a ring that helps with the sun but still never talks loud. She looks evil and in the deepest part of her soul she is not sure if she is evil on a level of undead. Very self aware and only time with Isendir has lifted her view that she is a thing to hide. She never spent time with non family so she does not work well with others and can come off cold on a level of evil. She is neat to a flaw. Her magic is unstable and she casts shadow spells against her will. Only through total control can she keep her power in check. Something she sees as her duty. Closes every doors. Folds her umbrella. Takes care of her loved ones. Timid to non mages but a lion to others of her class and in some cases her race.
Durk is a walking flaw. He is filthy to the point that rain can leave a clean spot. I once described him as 'The salt of the earth' though it might be more like the salting of the earth. His is not school smart but he has an earthy wisdom. He can not read well and elven is a thing to be frightened of. He can't pronounce most elven names. Given that the circle is almost all Elves, this has been fun. Durk keeps giving away ALL his money. Does it ALL the time. Durk is a slob. Has been known to fart when he wakes. Lives in the great outdoors. Walks across anything with never considering is there is a road or river and all doors are opened. At the moment his shoe squeaks.
Telk is thick. a 'Romantic Fool'. He can not get over a girl that has never even talked to him much at all. He gets caught like a dear on the headlights if anyone tells a story. He is torn between all his duties in Evermeet where he should be and the 'girl'. This little thing effects every moment of his play. This guy has some bad luck. Just can not get a break. He even rolls natural 1s about 6 times more than any character I have ever played. Offerings to luck have not helped with the engine rolls.
I love flaws. Bringing them into a game makes the game for me. The most evident I ever did was an elven mage with con 6. Sounds old hat but 2hp a level meant I did not need to RP him being weak. I never upped his con with equipment of spells. He would win a fight fast through hard planning or died in a hit. Most fun ever. It was on another server, made level 36 after 4 years of play.
Rite.

Celith suffers from constant insecurities, worried that he's not living up to his goals and duties (which he isn't, being that I play him so rarely these days). When he is actively attempting to do so, he's never pleased that he's accomplishing quite enough. Camina has also been feeling rather lost and without purpose in the past months, finding herself without any real drive or long term goals. Similarly to Celith, she's rather insecure, but more in regard to her personal relationships then other things. Also, she's a bit of a sadist when dealing with things she dislikes (although she denies it even to herself), and has some very flawed views that she's rather convinced to be truth. I won't to into detail here, but on some subconscious level, she knows there's something wrong, but for the most part, she convinces herself that her way is the right way and that most others just aren't enlightened enough to realize it. Her evilish tendencies have been mostly kept in check by the fact that the majority of her friends are good or neutral, though; she isn't really a fan of blatant evil, and for whatever reasons, never really got in close with the evil-characters-around-her-level clique. Rigrin is on one hand very confident in himself and his abilities (quite possibly overconfident, he's been occasionally told *coughs*), but on the other, plagued by worries that he's not actually putting his magic to good enough use. There are few obstacles he can't overcome when he puts his mind to it, but when one of said obstacles makes itself apparent, it's usually at least temporarily depressing for him. I'm still working on ironing out Rosaline's flaws. She might be sometimes worried she's not doing the right thing (mildly bothered by it, but not actually driven to being really upset unless it's something major - she's CN with good tendencies, so she doesn't always let it get to her, just occasionally), and she might sometimes beat herself up a bit over not being able to contribute as much as she'd like to with certain things. None of it's really quite set in stone, though, I'm still getting a feel for her. Heh, I think all of my main characters have at least a few insecurity issues. I wonder if that should be telling me something.

Hmmmm.
Elvewyn has a complete fear of gnomes. He is well read and knows alot of lore, but he knows he knows alot, so he refuses to believe anyone who tries to correct him. Unless it is a special few. He has a habit of saying things which are meaner then he originally intended. He has a short temper which can be dangerous at times but it makes him lose all sense of rationality he has. Elve also holds grudges for a really long time and he finds it hard to trust anyone.

Hmm... I'd have to say Torian's flaws are her short temper (pun intended ) and her curiosity. Oriana's would have to be her insecurity mainly.

Chond used to have terrible BO. It got so bad that other adventurers would always try to stay upwind of him. It was likely due to him always wearing his helm, never changing out of his armor and not taking the time to clean his armor.
One time when he finally removed his helm I swear a bird fell dead out of the sky nearby.
Thankfully he caught on to the fact that others were avoiding him and religiously washes his body and armor once per week.

Entori, hates the cold, and thusly shows this. He prefers magic over martial extents, but returns to using martial combat and other such things, when he is alone/with few wardens, (heh! - inside joke)
Entori is also very prideful hard headed, and has it in his head that chromatic are evil beings to be whiped off the face of the earth (or somewhat close to it) due to the destruction they bring.
There's also the elf of evermeet factor, as I call it. that +stubborn, prideful, egotistical, and sometimes very bitter.
= the ent bad mood package.

Kethoth's weakness is his girlish warrior abilities. A low level fighter can outfight him in a fair fight. He is also arrogant, and that can sometimes cloud his vision from a true threat that displays themselves as overly humble.

Illios is very overprotective of people he cares about. He tries to keep from getting too close to people(at least at first), particularly women, though this is largely due to the fact that he has a fear of being hurt because he's had some bad relationships in the past. Illios has a good heart, but may be sometimes slow in passing necessary judgment, like on people who aren't so good for example. I guess you could say he likes to give people a second chance to prove themselves.
Talenduil is extremely prideful, like a lot of other elves. He tends to think and fight more with his emotions than his mind, which has lead to some of the not best decisions he's made. Like Illios, he is very protective of his friends, though he's not afraid of passing judgment on people he doesn't approve of.
One last character, Alacar, as a cleric of Corellon carries out his responsibilty of keeping good relations with other races, but this is strongly in conflict with the fact that he thinks very little of just about all non-elf races.

Kasur's code of honor is so strict he often comes off as arrogant and intolerant.
Rulla's fatal flaw was that as a skald she was unable to lie or misrepresent anyone, and she was unable to participate in duels, grudges, or vendettas. She had to be obviously and clearly neutral. This seemed to me an easy thing to do, until she was asked to tell a story. While the audience was distracted an assassin killed one of them, leaving Rulla with the consequences, either to prove she was not involved or to lose her status as a skald for participating in a vendetta. Being unable to prove she was not an accomplice her reputation was permanently ruined and so she was no longer a skald.
Nather is a shameless poon-hound and will do stupid things to impress the ladies, but he is also a dedicated cleric who actually tries to serve the people around him. This lead him to remain in Isinhold during the Zhent invasion, and later, the Evergreen Militia had to drag him out of Isinhold when the Silent Dominion took over.
Ian uses big words nobody understands.
Unien is a coward. There, I said it! Oh, he's brave enough when he understands what it is he's supposed to do, and he gets a thrill riding out a storm in the rigging, but things like fighting monsters are just out. Not gonna do it!
I suppose all of my characters are flawed in some way or other. I've never really given it much thought, it's just a part of characterization. Had the question been about favorable characteristics I'd have mentioned Kasur's loyalty, Rulla's dedication to her craft, Nat's self-sacrifice for others, Ian's drive to learn and teach, and Unien's genuine friendliness.

I think Rastan is flawed in that he was built for strength. That makes his fighting style one dimensional and he doesn't have the number of feats most fighters have. I consider him to be a bit brutish as a fighter, not a skilled one. Also, he started with average intelligence which has slowly grown over time. At first he did not employ good tactics unless someone else suggested them. He is better at it now but will never be a great tactician. Given his fighting style and chaotic nature he prefers to jump into the fray and attack quickly. (He knows enough to keep his distance from those with an acid sheath, though. ) He doesn't have many skills that aren't combat oriented but he does have a decent perform skill. Nevertheless, he doesn't consider himself a competent bard. He lacks some self confidence in his ability.

Zaebros: Heh, this one's easy. He has an elf-phobia he surpresses with magic and isn't exactly a very witty person in general. He's also far too nice - he literally can't get himself to do things that make anyone he doesn't actively dislike sad, no matter how much it bugs him. Jared: Complete and utter lack of goals. Jared can't really get himself to care about anything. He enjoys working his 'art', but he himself has no actual reason to do anything. He's a follower by heart, not one to show any own initiative. Oh, and he's a snob who thinks he's smarter then everyone else. Brannon: *shifty eyes* In general, Brannon is a decent person. He's polite, always willing to help people out, but... only if he likes you or you at least didn't give him a reason to dislike you yet. Basically, his biggest problem is that he has zero tolerance for anything that doesn't fit into his idea of how things should be. He's a racist, almost a fascist in his patriotism, a bureaucrat who thinks 'It's the law' is enough reason for anything no matter how retarded or downright bad it is et cetera. He has some trouble with the thought of redemption and forgiveness too - if you make it on the list of people he distrusts once, you probably never get of it again no matter what you do. Let me put it like this: If Brannon was in charge of a country, it'd be a dystopia. As long as you follow the law and are a good citizen, you'll have a great, wonderful life, but literally any crime would lead to a wizard scrambling your brain and turning you into a 'productive member of society' Hmmm ... other flaws of him would be the fact that he can be somewhat of a braggard, drinks and smokes too much (...not that is has any real effect on someone with his con) and is, as mentioned above, a bureaucrat who'd rather chew his own arm off then willingly break the law.

Hnn... Zoe. Zodika is cryptic, very complicated and extremely stubborn. She started as a horrible tactician. You could say she was almost "dwarven" in her style of doing things and still is a little at times. She walked over traps, charged head first into battle etc. She took lots of damage and got her travel companions killed at times because of it. But, she's slowly learned from the competent companions/allies she has or had. Zoe, also, does not seem to be emotionally tied to anything and any emotion that does come through her is suppressed and shown only in a way that is to be beneficial to a cause. This usually makes her appear as a cold, unfriendly, uncaring person (as she likely is much of the time).
Kherei's flaws are much easier. She is built for merchanting, not combat. She doesn't spend much coin on combat gear either. She doesn't have a lot of self confidence (unless she is bartering) and is commonly worried she isn't doing well enough for herself.

Back when I played Battledale (God rest its soul) I played a dwarf named Gilmwar.
Gilmwar was a constitution based fighter. He hung around with a rogue named Myler and as Gilmwar progressed he took skills that he thought he was picking up from Myler.
In other words, by 9th level Gilmwar was almost completely unplayable for anything he needed to "tank" for. Gilmwar took 6 levels of fighter and then 3 levels of Rogue... and he was a terrible rogue but wanted to be like his friend or at least was picking up the art from his friend... it was a gesture of roleplay to the extreme that as these two became friends and allies Myler started "rubbing off" on Gilmwar and Gilmwar slowly became a less of a fighter and more of a bad rogue. In short he became a constitution based fighter/rogue and if you think it's easy to play one of those I wish you the best of luck trying!
Gilmwar is/was by far my favorite character of all time because he was so perfectly flawed. It was brilliantly fun and I derived pleasure every time I logged in to play him just for the simple fact that he was completely home-grown in his appetites and completely free formed as the world impacted him.
I love playing hopelessly flawed characters so I could tell you about many of my misadventures.

Onisha: Onisha was over confident in her skills and abilities. She was un-willing to compromise on anything she was paid to do. Playing a cold hearted, man hating assassin made her have very few friends... for a while, then, her inability to get over her focus on greed led to her death, as it messed up her relationship.....
Grush'nak: [Yea, that's right, I'm Grushnak. mwahahahaha]
Do I even have to explain his flaws? He stinks, he wants to kill you, yes you...... He's easily entertained and he has no ability to tell what's morally accepted. Did I mention he stinks?
Lokarn: Umm..... I almost never play him... does that count?

KaijKaij is rather flaw-free. His background wasn't ever developed much and it kinda led him to not really have many goals. I play him as if he were me. He acts as I would and speaks about the same too. He's built to go out and adventure and be a very carefree PC to play. RP never developed too "deep" with him. Maybe that's the reason flaws haven't become too evident. Well, other than being married. Some would consider that a flaw. RhoRho was built to be really strong. Cuz of that, he has crappy AC and it costs lots to adventure with him. He's moody, racist, and gives off an impression that keeps others from playing much with him. Arilou (Kin'ija Razza)Arilou is just too evil to play with any regularity. I wrote up her background and after playing her to level 6 a few times I found out that playing her correctly would break way too many server rules. She is everything that goes along with someone who only wants to murder people randomly for fun. *shrugs* Soo... she has lots of flaws I guess. KaludovKaludov hasn't been developed too much but she'd fall into the common elf catagory. Even if she is very friendly, she thinks herself better than most other beings but is very curious about their habits and how they operate their lives. Im not sure if it's a flaw but she almost never speaks to anyone.

Nura - she is well and truly flawed her stats were average shes tripple class and shes fun to play because she wasnt really planned at all she grew the way she was through interaction.
Parsifal - another no planning char thats just good fun to play especially in the right group.
Elisaraun - oh god lets see druid elf straight away theres problems, then her stats are so cocked up its not funny, cant run on frc and shes an elf bah I hate the way I cant seem to control her walking, that irritant alone makes her near unplayable add in the fact she cant even cast her 6th lvl spells well enough said nive char the didea was nice anyway but without her running mate bubble shes pretty much a last resort or cameo character.
bran I forgot to add a point of wisdom when he was made but then one way or another making monks always calls for a lot of thought, he still a lot of fun to play.
most of the rest dont really have any crippling flaws occasional choice that was poor in feats or the like but thats life.

Garum Glandash has several major flaws.
Firstly, he is entirely too prideful in his swordsmanship, considering people who use magic in its place to be cowards. He commonly damns priests for hiding behind their gods and tells mages they're, quote, "sissies."
Aside from this, Garum can also be a hopeless romantic. I'm sure several people remember when he was enamored with Kiki, and took rosewater baths and kept himself meticulously groomed. I like to think of him in this stage as a blonde Nathan Explosion from the episode Girlfriendklok. He's been a ticking timebomb, lately, and I think he's overdue for a heartsplosion.
He is also a man of honor, despite his history as a mercenary. Should someone insult him, he seeks to recompense that with an apology. Failing that, he won't shy from demanding a fight. Garum also keeps grudges for a long time, and to this day, he still wishes to kill several people who slighted him in the past.
His lack of racism has often put him at odds with other characters. Where others see orcs as an evil entity that must be obliterated, he sees orcs as people who have been misguided through the evils of unwashed tribalism. He won't stop to kill a full-grown warrior, but he has his reasons to stop with that.
But, in the end, I like to think he pulls it all together, and makes a fine group leader, using his intelligence and strength, rather than his average charisma, to lead his friends through some of the most grisly situations imaginable.
Oh, one final flaw - he likes to kill dragons, steal dragons' body parts, steal dragons' eggs, and casually call out dragons. Someone has to have noticed that by now.

Isiolith - has a temper, true redhead when she's angry. I play it that way to reflect she is a fairly wild wood elf who spends a lot of her time alone - when she comes out of long periods of isolation she is very insular and feral. Her patience with people sometimes runs out, especially when they make bad choices that she's warned them about.
Sometimes she will gripe about humans and other races, like most rangers she has a venemous grudge against her favoured enemies.
Tama - is a raging barbarian on one side and a calm druid on the other, a conflicting combination. She will thump anyone who goes against nature. Majority of the time she's really happy and just a great big cuddly savage.
Gode Arac - is hugely flawed in that she lives for revenge, she has no life, no friends , only allies and regards everyone as pawns in her ultimate aim to wage war.

Perry (Perogrin Bille) sometimes doesn't have the best judgment regarding people. He doesn't always pick up on the cues that some people are reckless and foolish when it comes to exploring areas. He would much prefer to use his skills to soften any enemies first before people charge ahead.
Obrecon must have had some distant human relative because he's the only elf around with facial hair.
Slinger doesn't quite know what to do with himself. He was in the militia back home before coming to Cormyr and now still tries to use the militia's military tactics when he's out with a group. Of course it doesn't work if there's not others on a shield wall, or he's with a group of non fighter types.
