Do you carry a good supply of arrows in your pack? Maybe 200, 300 or so? If so be glad that arrows in NWN are weightless!
A mediaeval war arrow for a long bow weighed about four ounces. So 100 arrows should weigh 25 lbs. English archers during the Hundred Years War usually carried 24 arrows, sometimes 48, and a reserve supply for them was carried in the baggage wagons. There are many references (e.g. in Froissart) to archers running forward after repelling a charge to search for arrows that could be re-used.
Now I am NOT suggesting that weight for arrows should be scripted in (It would be possible but the scripting would be fiddly and probably contribute seriously to lag), but - have a look in your backpack and consider whether you should carry less ammunition!

I typically just fill up like a page in my inventory with arrows and forget about them for a while... weightless and only costs 1, meh.

honestly i carry about 3,000 arrows but i rip through them because i'm an arcane archer it's all i use. if i were to carry less then...oh 1000 i'd run out easily.

I carry about 700 bullets for Aria's sling, and still run out occasionally on long trips... with 1 attack a round... keep in mind though... unlike realife, we dont get to recover arrows or we wouldnt tote so many.

Did I mention it take 3 or 4 to kill anything (as opposed to one + serious moral damage in real life?)

I've recently started using quivers, they are a good way and I like the idea.

hey.. count yourself lucky.. Try walking around with a couple hundred axes...
1) they only stack in 50's 2) that 50 is 50 lbs
did it for the longest time.. Went to throwing knives/darts just because I was at my weight limit most of the time.. especially with all the armor and weapons Helgrin carries around..
I really should buy a bag of holding *grumbles and walks away massaging his back*

Zak carries five hundred at any one time. But I like the quiver idea. Now that they're working I'll go looking for them.

The difference, as was said, bieng that they could retreive their arrows, if they werent impaled in someone too deeply, or broken.
That, and they typically didnt have an extended series of use. In medeival battles the archers would be called up, fire a half dozen volleys, then retire as the grunts charged in. This left them to targets of opportunity, or bieng cut down like cattle if the enemy broke through and they couldbnt get away fast enough.
