*starts to wonder about his own thick skull and why none of shadowcatjens pcs ever go anywhere with poor Guldar* Because Myn's heard all the stories from Chrys when she goes out with him and they all end with: "And I woke up looking up at Merriss's mole and nose hairs again...." Like helgrin said she ain't suicidal. ;D And the other is a low HP blind woman. She can hardly find her way around town let alone a dungeon with a crazy dwarf. Booze Hound Yeah, the unfortunate bit is that those that are Drama Queens seldom seem to realize what they are. They just see themselves as advancing "good roleplay" to the masses. Yes, yes indeed this was the plan. *joins Talus in the deviant laughter* MUWHAHAAAAA! Ahem. It's good from time to time to make sure you're not going overboard with something or dragging a dramatic situation out too long. I've been subject to doing this myself on occasion and I have to step back sometimes and force myself into putting my character into a better state of mind. And, yeah, Driderman, I've been to a few places before where it almost seemed a requirement that you be a half-fish-dragon-drow-vampire-celestial who's a Paladin of Sune who used to be a follower of Asmodeus (thus the reason why they understand Infernal). And it does usually start with just one.... one person playing a unique "non-basic" race character. Said person gets all the interesting attention and then all the attention getters suddenly go "Me too! I can do better!" and it all gets ugly from there. Like I've said, time and time again, I don't mind the sub-races, it's the players what can't play said subraces that I'd rather avoid all together. 667, baby! Neighbor of the beast. *nods*

All this talking about Drama Queens and no one is paying attention to me? Damn...I'm just gonna go kill myself now! Seriously though, if I'm overly dramatic sometimes it's because I have ADD, and I'm kind of bored and need attention. Some people just aren't good at socializing in RL so they role-play 'cuz it's safer way of connecting with people. I don't know if I'm one of the people you are referring to, (I hope not,) but sometimes it's really hard to figure out a way to interject yourself into a adventuring party so that you're not the only solo player online during not so busy times.

Hhmmm.. interesting... and easy to blast others over this... yet I think we've all been prone to being "drama queens" on occasions. I've seen it with "veteran players" here as well as newbies and I know I've been at fault as well.
After all, it's nice to be the center of attention and with a server that has so many players on it, it's hard to feel you're involved in the events taking place.
Perhaps a gentle nudge would suffice.
I've seen players on other servers who never rped before that were drama queens, but with "gentle nudges" here and there turned into some outstanding rpers.
Barrring that...if they fail to understand, a swift kick upside their heads by a dm should bring the point home. ;D I've done that as well. Amazing how effective it is. hehe
What I'm really tring to say is... don't be so quick to judge and blow someone off. Find out if they truely understand what they're doing first. Maybe they don't realize it.

Good suggestions there and, yeah, many Drama Queens do stem from the newbie who's just too new to roleplaying in general to know better. Also, this thread is not -- I repeat not -- aimed at anyone in particular. I am simply speaking from what I've experienced and wanted to share it, discuss it, and make it known that it is something to look out for. ParagonActually I find that those who apparently have ADD are typically not Drama Queens. I don't mean this disrespectfully, but they really don't have the attention spans to stick around long enough to wallow in the melodrama. Least that's been my experience.

;D I actually meant that facetiously, I don't actually have AD...hey, what's that over there?!
I actually decided when I rolled my toon that he was a twitch, and in constant fear of being killed, so if I suddenly randomly go off I am in character.
I did accidentally go out of character my last session though, but I was kind of feeling guilty about manipulating a certain half-orc to attack someone else (unsuccessfully, I might add,) and I felt that I should defend him from the meanness of that elf. (Which is totally OOC for Muri!)

You think it's easy to plot the death of people just laugh at the corpses and then go on about how it made up for any slight real or imagined? Torian and Ailren are always busy busy, and both of them have graciously taken the time to learn you some exploding death trap fear, and this is the thanks you give the tiny doom hin? She oughta kill you for calling her meanie.

You mean, you've been killing other people? I didn't think you'd be cheating on me... I wasn't going to say anything about this, but now I may as well. I've been cheating on you, too. That's right. I've been assassinated by half the town.
That's right, go ahead, get angry and jealous. But after a couple nights of not having my blood on your hands, you'll come crawling back, begging for more. It happens every time.

Hm. Digging threads again but I found this one interesting. My opinion on this then...
Walking around spreading drama with your char in order to get attention is something annoying for me. My chars usually tend to make fun of those types and ruin their whole thing, ending with accomplishing the exact opposite of the -dark,gloomy- atmosphere they're trying to spread... however... the really annoying thing, is when I see chars that... sorry for the phrase... "smell cheese". People RPing abilities and things that are not part of the game and/or their characters.
Hm, dominated by a demon... Want to do this, try and contact a DM and see if he likes/can arrange it for your char if there are reasons. You can't just -decide- you're taken over by a demon, it's cheesy to me, the demon is not your char and won't take over you whenever you like. Moderation, you can't just faint whenever you want, there must be a reason. I'd usually have my char roll some check -upon- hearing something that'd shock him and maybe faint.
Oh well, maybe just my usual ranting again, but I've witnessed so many such things both in this server and previous I played and they always ruin my experience.

Heck, if someone went around deciding to RP their characters being possessed by a demon or fainting every now and then, I'd just have my characters react the same way I would in real life. Assume they are just trying to get attention.

Assume they are just trying to get attention. That's surely my chars' reaction as well, point is that still it's cheesing, since they don't actually -pretend- those things to happen to them, rather believe that as players they can -force- those things on their chars. That's the trouble

Now apply everything said here about ingame drama queens to the forums. Life has problems and a supportive group can be very helpful. But some of the threads I see are obviously an overly dramatic attempt at seeking attention.

Now apply everything said here about ingame drama queens to the forums. Life has problems and a supportive group can be very helpful. But some of the threads I see are obviously an overly dramatic attempt at seeking attention. Major difference with that sort of thing is time. While playing in game things are at real time and have to be dealt with right then and there. This causes an interruption of immersion and that's a Bad Thing. With forum postings everyone can generally just ignore it or give a PM to the person at their leisure. Not to mention that if a forum moderator sees the post to be nothing more then a flame they can lock the post basically hushing them up ASAP. They can even delete the post. While in game, that can't happen, not without a major interruption in gameplay and a DM having to get all the players to agree that the melodrama that just happened is to be ignored. So forum melodrama vs. in game melodrama is almost a case of apples and oranges.
